FC Northern v St Michael’s Ladies

St Michael’s were on the road today to play FC Northern in the LWYFL Premier League. Due to an injury to captain Izzy Kadziolka, it was necessary to make defensive changes. Liv Adams stepped up to partner with Nay Bolton in this ‘baptism of fire’.

FC Northern are a well organised team, and have 6 points from their first 2 games of the season without conceding a goal.

Not much between both teams, ball possession being keenly contested all over the pitch. FC Northern perhaps edging the chances in the first half, utilising long balls to try and catch Saints defence out. Saints keeper Ayngel Yusuf alert to this tactic and was sharp coming off her line to s***f out the danger.

FC Northern broke the deadlock in the 18th minute. A through ball to their forward led to a controversial penalty. Referee viewed it as a foul by the keeper. Have to watch that one back. Penalty converted.

1-0 to FC Northern at half time.

Second half remained competitive but FC Northern added a 2nd in the 51st minute. Saints unable to prevent a cross from the left for the waiting attacker to head home.

Last 15 minutes, Saints threw the kitchen sink at trying to get back in the game. We created a number a chances but the FC Northern keeper was able to deal with any shots from our attackers.

Mandy Kennedy was Saints’ POTM. Incredible effort and energy in midfield, was central to most of our best play. Well deserved.

Final score FC Northern 2-0 St Michael’s.

Everyone at St Michael’s DHFC Ladies would like to wish our captain, Izzy Kadziolka, a speedy recovery.
Izzy suffered a serious knee injury in our opening game of the season, and the news has left everyone at the club deeply saddened.
Captain, we’re all behind you. Focus on your recovery, take the time you need, and know that the entire team is supporting you every step of the way.
We can’t wait to see you back where you belong—leading us on the pitch once again.
