This week at Little Leaps we enjoyed a fun basketball-themed session! With the recent hot weather, we kept things a little less intense while still staying active and having lots of fun.

We started with a small obstacle course to get everyone moving before bringing out the basketballs. The children practised dribbling, bounce passes, throwing and catching, as well as aiming basketballs through hoops and into baskets.

After basketball, we worked on our balance skills with some bean bag balancing activities, followed by some stretching.

To finish, everyone received some well-earned stickers! 🏀

Last Saturday at Little Leaps we had a tennis-themed session!

We started off with a fun warm-up game of keep the balloon off the floor, encouraging little ones to move and reac. We then introduced tennis rackets and practised using them to hit the balloons, helping children get used to controlling movement and making contact with an object.

Next, we moved on to foam balls where the children practised hitting the balls up into the air, forwards and to their parents. Finally, we introduced real tennis balls so they could experience the difference when using a heavier ball.

Activities like these are wonderful for developing hand-eye coordination in children aged 2–5. Tracking balloons and balls with their eyes and coordinating their movements to hit them helps strengthen important skills such as timing, balance, concentration, coordination and motor control.

To finish our session, we got active with some Sports Day practice as we get ready for our Sports Day on the 20th June.

Well done to all our Little Leapers for another brilliant session!

Last Saturday at Little Leaps we had so much fun exploring rugby skills and movement challenges!

The children practised throwing and catching the ball, kicking, running while holding the ball, and even pinching scarves from each other in a playful game of tag. These activities help develop hand-eye coordination, balance, agility, listening skills, and teamwork.

We then created a mini obstacle course where the children climbed onto boxes, balanced on beams, stepped across stepping stones, crawled under obstacles, and jumped over equipment.

Obstacle courses are fantastic for 2–5 year olds because they support gross motor development, coordination, spatial awareness, problem-solving, and body control. Activities like climbing, balancing, crawling, and jumping also help strengthen muscles and improve confidence in movement.
