The ‘Race for Rivers’ has begun! 🔥🔥

The world’s first SUP relay covering 641km of connected waterways to monitor the water quality en route from Godalming to the Lake District!

The ‘paddle’ will come through Staines pausing at for tea & cake before heading on Runnymede on Wed 13th (arriving early afternoon). Ably led by Liz 💪🏻💪🏻.

To coincide with this we will be running a Planet Patrol river clean up!

Phew! 😅 Bit of a week this week so far…

We were Planet Patrolling with a small but perfectly formed team of awesome volunteers Sally, Ellen, Time & David clearing a stretch of the Thames.

Amongst other plastic litter, bottles, rope etc we also recovered 2 motorcycle batteries (many thanks Staines for disposing of them for us👍🏻). Big thanks 🙏 also to hotel & spa for their amazing support (car park, bins, river access!). Legends.

We also hosted the Runnymede Endevour Scouts for a sunset SUP! Many thanks to Liz and Francisco .pato for assisting! A great time was had by all!

And then the had their regular lunchtime SUP session! Best board meeting ever!

Road Trip…😎🤙🏻

We headed off to explore the beautiful River Hamble on the south coast today…

Launching from the River Hamble Country Park, we headed out towards the Solent and discovered the BEST bacon rolls at - which is, as far as we know, the UK’s first floating café for paddlers and boaters! It’s brand new and run by the lovely Feebz!

If you’re paddling in the area we highly recommend stopping for a treat! ☕️🥓🍰😋

We soon burned off the bacon roll as we were paddling against the tide coming back!

There’s also a fab pub (Jolly Sailor) reachable at high tide (will try that next time) .

Great day, great food and great company..

The recent rain ☔️ has meant the Thames at Runnymede has been ‘red boarded’ (ie. Not safe to paddle on). ☹️

However….we have use of a lake 😀, which is perfect for SUP lessons!

We are a registered SUP school offering BSUPA 'Ready to Ride' courses as well as SUP and kayak hire by the hour.

Managed to dodge the rain..🌧 and get out for an hour today

We’ve had a lot of rain over the last few days so a lot of water entering the river systems.

So really important to do your safety checks before heading out especially if paddling solo (like me today):
👉🏻Leash
👉🏻PFD
👉🏻Phone
👉🏻Check river flow
👉🏻Tell someone where you launch and what time you expect to be back.

Had the river to myself and able to focus on my stroke technique and pace. 🥵

Happy with average speed (8.2km) given flow and maxed at 12.9km (flow assisted! 😜).

What a great end to the week!

We had our last official lesson of the season with the the lovely Kevin & Donna (well done to Kevin for getting his Ready to Ride 👏🏻). Soo good to have the river to yourselves at this time of year!

Then it was time to blast the Halloween 🎃 cobwebs 🕸🕷away at Race 2 off the Henley Winter Series brilliantly organised by .

Nick managed his best result ever with 2nd place as solo paddler (3rd overall), behind 6x British National Champ, Blue Ewer! Stoked to say the least !! 😀

Hats off to .wr & for getting 2nd overall on a Tandem!

In preparation for a junior race, justSUPs own Alice headed out on a 14’ race board for a 2.5km training run! She shot off the line like a bullet and smashed it! 🥹🥰 - looking forward to the main event next month 🤞🏻

Highly recommend the HWS format : super friendly, inclusive, SAFE and everyone gets a medal (plus amazing bacon sarnies provided by ! 😋). Give it a go and take your paddling to the next level!

Still lovely out on the river at the moment…less boat traffic, colours just beginning to think about changing and the water temp is still ok! 😎.

This lovely group (mums and daughters) took advantage and despite some initial nerves, all totally smashed it during their beginner lesson. 👏🏻👏🏻. Well done Helen £ Layla, Jo & Lara! 💪🏻🔥

We also headed off to Marlow this week to give the Racing SHARK 14’ a run out at a sunset race 🏁 organised by .

It was great course (with some tight corners!) and a great bunch of racers including our own Mr.Fanatic Fox (🥈👏🏻). Highly recommend racing - you learn SO much about your technique just by padding harder than normal. 👍🏻 …(and it’s not all ‘super serious’ - there’s a leisure class too 😁).
