RUMS Sport

Calling all female badminton aficianados! RUMS Badminton need you tomorrow at the Royal Free Recreation Club between 1 and 5 to SMASH the competition. We have space for 15 girls which will be allocated on a first come first SERVE basis. Looking forward to seeing you all then! 😀😀
Hello everyone,

I hope you are well.

Elections for the role of RUMS Vice-President for Finance and Operations are opening soon. This is a very rewarding and important role that is responsible for helping to sort through our annual budget and balancing our income and expenditure to keep RUMS in the black. You get the chance to work closely with a number of our regular sponsors and help procure funds to help subsidise our best loved events including Sports Ball and Finalist Ball. You get to coordinate payments with all the other members of the RUMS Executive, which means this is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the inner workings of RUMS and all we do.

The ideal candidate would be very organised, enthusiastic and reliable as well as being able to keep to deadlines. Previous experience in a similar financial role would be desirable but not essential.

If you are interested and would like to find out more, please message me at [email protected]. The link to form for nominations is below.

I look forward to working closely with one of you.

RUMSBC are cycling to Paris in aid of Anthony Nolan because we .

They say rowing is all about the legs, and on the 20th October, we are putting this to the test and swapping the Thames for the tarmac and tackling the infamous London to Paris route in under 24 hours, with our A Peloton hoping to reach Paris in under 22.

We have chosen to support Anthony Nolan because blood cancer affects so many people, including a member of our boat club, so the issue is close to home.

This year, the club has helped UCL Marrow to recruit 385 new donors to the bone marrow register and we hope to increase this number through fundraising and boosting awareness with our Paris cycle.

We are aiming to raise £1,500 so please, please towards our target and keep our legs going for the 295km long cycle!

If you want to know more about Anthony Nolan, here is a link to their website.

RUMS - Royal Free, University College and Middlesex medical students - was formed in 1998 following the merger of three of London's oldest and most famous medical schools. Our rich heritage, sporting prowess and legendary social scene ensure that the nine sports clubs of RUMS form the cornerstone of life at UCL Medical School. Whilst we have members who have represented their sport at county, regi

***Travel Reclaim***

Afternoon everyone, following a meeting with UCLU here's everything you need to know about the travel reclaim situation.

1) Travel reclaim WILL NOT BE STOPPED this year.
"After further consultation and review of our budget situation you will be pleased to hear that we are suspending the planned removal of zone 1-6 reclaims for sports clubs this term"

2) At the moment they don't have a long term plan to stay within budget so we're going to start talks to find a more permanent solution (unless we find more money there will be changes to the amount reimbursed in years to come)

3) The reimbursement guidelines FOR ALL CLUBS are as follows:
- Claims must be made within 30 days of the fixture or you don't get your money back

- Reclaim is only for the journey to and from the sports fixture and do not include any other travel that day

- You will only be able to reclaim the cheapest available ticket i.e. Oyster (linked with railcard) is often cheaper than a travel card within London as it caps depending on which zone you go to (unnecessary travelcards will not be reimbursed). I suggest captains (or someone less busy in your team) works out the cheapest option for each match and makes sure everyone gets the same.

- You must submit evidence e.g. the ticket itself or a printout/screenshot of your oyster card travel history

- Medics travelling to fixtures from Hospital and GP placements must also inform the CSC of where they are based this term when submitting reclaims for them to be valid.

There has been confusion in the past with different clubs being able to get different amounts of money back but this is the latest guidance for all teams.

So make yourselves available to your captains and enjoy free travel to all your matches!!!

If you are interested or know someone who might be interested please comment below and I will consider putting in another order. Need more than 10 people to make it worth it though!!

It is an understandably tough time and whilst the majority of you will undoubtedly have no problems whatsoever, sometimes things do not go to plan.

If you have any worries or concerns / would just like to talk things through, the RUMS Welfare VP is Becki Clarke. She is very friendly and will be happy to help any of you out. If you want her contact details drop a message to me via the page.

The more observant amongst you may have noticed that the UH Cup is on display in the Cruciform Hub!!

Thanks go to Dr Gill, UCLMS Director and Middlesex Hospital graduate, for sorting this.

RUMS Sport playing cards have raised a total of £150 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity!

Thank you to everyone who bought them. I had an update from the printers today and they will be with us on Wednesday!

Message from Stu:

Hey guys only a few days left until sports nights and celebrating the successful passes of the final years, please don't forget to send me either a video message or pictures with a caption for anyone you know who is a final year for their video, and final years the same goes for you as well. I have only had 4 emails which is nowhere near enough. [email protected]

Incredible weekend. To recap, Mary's Fairy is a tool, RUMS RFC are better the IMRFC, King's is buried on the strand but, most importantly, Sachins mum doesn't cut his hair.

Thank you to all those that came to both the UH Cup and Varsity last night. RUMS Spirit was in full flow!!! Special thanks to all those involved in organising both events!!

March is a massive month with AGMs, Lumsden Cup and Sports Ball to look forward to!
