Once again many thanks to those able to assist with maintenance of the clubhouse this weekend. Great progress made in getting things watertight and enhancing the visual appearance. Just a few bits left to finish off. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you . 😊 pop
Many thanks to all who came to assist with the clubhouse maintenance session. Fresh paint applied and the old portakabin received some well deserved TLC. Still a bit to do but she’s looking good!
Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March - Clubhouse Maintenance
Our poor old clubhouse is in dire need of some TLC.
Covid has meant no maintenance has been completed since March 2019.
We plan to paint the outside and replace some exterior panel work.
The inside needs a thorough clean and our equipment such as gazebos, tables, BBQs, lights need checking.
If you are able to help on either day please let me know.
We will supply paint and rollers but if you have tools such as saws, drills, screwdrivers, hammers, workmate etc etc please bring them along.
Suffering a bit of “BWS” - Boat Withdrawal Symptoms?
If so come and join us on 26th February for a Club Social Night.
Have a drink and a chat with the organisers of this year’s cruises and make some summer time plans for the upcoming club events, that’s sure to sort out any “BWS”.
Hope to see you there.

Good sound safety advice, for both tidal and non-tidal rivers.👍
A surge in swimmers and unsuitable inflatables on the Thames in London during the COVID-19 lockdown is putting lives at risk.
The PLA and its partners in the Tidal Thames Water Safety Forum, representing all the bodies involved in preventing drownings on the river, warn all those taking to the Thames that there are hidden dangers the capital’s river, particularly for untrained and inexperienced water users.
Mark Towens, a Port of London Authority harbour master said: “We recognise the allure of the river for people seeking rest and recreation, particularly at this time, but our advice to anybody taking to the river on impulse, particularly less able swimmers and the inexperienced, is clear: Stay out of the water. It could cost you your life."
🔹Even the fittest athlete can find themselves challenged by the river’s powers. It flows at the speed of an Olympic swimmer and has a daily tidal rise and fall of seven metres.
🔹The risk of cold water shock – causing the heart to go into seizure - is a year-round phenomenon.
🔹There is the risk of colliding with vessels on the river or being injured by infrastructure along the banks of the foreshore, often hidden beneath the waterline.
🔹The deep mud of the foreshore can trap people, creating a serious risk of death, given the speed of the river’s ebb and flow.
🔹Any member of the public who spots someone in the river in trouble should always call 999 immediately and ask for the coastguard, rather than attempt a rescue themselves
