Did you know there are 4 core rhythms in Zumba?! You dance to them every week, and some of them more than once! 😜
🥁 Let me introduce you to Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, and Reggaeton 🎶 There’s so much to know about each of them! Each one has its own core steps, instruments, rhythm, and, of course, different energy levels that help the playlist go up and down in intensity.
You will recognise the songs on this video from class, so you can probably tell how fast-paced and high-energy the Merengue is compared to the Cumbia, or how lively and playful the Salsa is compared to the more punchy Reggaeton. With time, you get to know the basic steps, the pace or the intensity that we give to each one, so you can vibe with the music and add your own flair 🪭
I’ll cover a few other rhythms that we dance to in class in another video! In the meantime, let me know in the comments what other songs from class you can categorise within their rhythms 🎺
On the video:
🎺 Salsa: Fueguito
🥁 Merengue: Qué Locura
🪇 Cumbia: Cumbia Ven
🎹 Reggaeton: La Nena

All Zumba classes are running as normal this half-term week in Witney town centre 🥳
🥵 Since we are already sweating, we might as well have some fun dancing to Latin Rhythms and feeling like summer is here already!!! 🌞
5,000 miles apart. Zero excuses not to dance together! 🔥 Shakira literally moves continents 🫶
I didn’t discover Zumba for my mental health, but that’s exactly what it gave me 🫶
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and while looking after our minds deserves attention every single day, it feels like the right moment to share something a little personal 💜
A while back, after walking away from a toxic job, I hit anxiety levels I’d never experienced before. Therapy, rest and time with people I love were huge parts of finding my way through it, but something else helped in a way that’s genuinely hard to put into words. Showing up to Zumba. Even on the days it felt impossible to leave the house.
Every time I made myself go (or got my partner to drag me out the door!), I felt better afterwards.
Every 👏 Single 👏 Time 🎶
Having a friend beside me, and all those smiling faces in class, the amazing instructors I had… it made the world of a difference. That’s why I believe so deeply in what Zumba and dancing offers: it’s not just a workout, it’s a reset, a community, and a way back to joy, even when things are hard.
For me, it’s Zumba, the lively Latin rhythms, the group energy, the feeling of just being there and moving. For you, it might be something completely different! But I hope you find your thing: something that feels good, feels joyful, and that you can keep coming back to 💜
If you’re looking for a little lift this week, come and join us. You might just find it’s the best part of your day ✨ And if someone you know is struggling, bring them along. Showing up is the hardest part, but you’ll never regret it 💃
See you in class! Bring that smile, it’ll mean more to someone than you know ☺️
Sassy and high energy, all in one! 🔥 Loving this new cumbia in class, with a choreo mixed from and .zin + versions 💃

I’m celebrating today… 🥳
One year ago today I taught my first ever Zumba class at the Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney. I was SO nervous, probably shaking even, and I’m pretty sure I messed up every single choreo that I had practiced for weeks… but there I was, in front of a group of ladies that just wanted to have some fun and get a workout in. I don’t remember much of my first few classes, but I was instantly hooked. People liked my music and my energy, and I couldn’t wait every week for that class 🤩
Reflecting back on it, I can’t believe how much my life has changed in just one year. Are you kidding? I get to dance alongside so many fun, smiley people, make it a mini-party at any time of the day, have the time of my life and be completely unplugged from the world (and screens!) for an hour… and I get paid for it?!? How’s this real life!? 🤪
I still keep my graphic design business up and running on the side, but I have now 4 weekly classes and love every single one of them. I’m way happier, healthier and more confident that I was just a year ago, and dancing is a big part of it.
It has been a year full of learning, meeting amazing people in and out of class, and dancing everywhere! 💃
Grateful to Jo and Evelyn who interviewed me and gave me an opportunity to teach a class even with zero experience (teaching, cause I had been attending Zumba classes for many many many years!). Big thanks to the amazing Zumba community in Oxfordshire who’ve supported, inspired and helped me from the beginning 🫶 And of course, huge thanks to all the people who’ve been coming to my classes week after week, some from the very first one! I wouldn’t be doing this without you all ❤️
For many MANY more years dancing together, learning from all of you, instructors and students, and having a little party every week!
If you are one the smiley faces that joins me every week (or whenever you can), let me know in the comments! 🤩
Have I told you already I’m in my salsa era? 🫣 New choreo coming very soon to a class near you (if you’re in Witney, Oxfordshire 🤪)
