We don't need Norðheim to exist to need what it stands for.

We all know the feeling.

The constant notifications.
The endless rush.
The pressure to always be available.

Norðheim isn't an escape from life.

It's a reminder of how life can feel when there's time to breathe.

One day there will be campfires beneath the stars.
Workshops filled with the sound of hand tools.
Lanterns glowing through the trees.
Long conversations without anyone reaching for their phone.

Until that day comes, we'll keep building.

Not just a village.

A sanctuary.

One step closer.

People often ask how Norðheim is coming along.

The honest answer?

Slowly. Steadily. One step at a time.

We’ve had promising conversations. We’ve viewed land. We’ve had opportunities appear and disappear again. Most recently, a potential piece of land that looked very hopeful has unfortunately gone quiet.

But that’s part of building something worth building.

We’re not looking for just any field. We’re looking for the right place. Somewhere that can become a home for traditional skills, campfires, craftsmanship, community and a slower way of life.

In the meantime, we keep moving forward.

The Elderwood Project continues to grow.
Workshops continue to run.
Timber continues to be saved from landfill.
Skills continue to be shared.
The community continues to grow.

One day we’ll find the right piece of land and when we do, we’ll be ready.

Until then, we keep building the foundations.

And here’s where you might be able to help.

If you own land or woodland in Yorkshire that is currently sitting unused and generating little or no income, we’d love to speak with you. We are not looking to buy outright. We’re looking for a long-term partnership where we can transform an underused space into something meaningful, sustainable and financially beneficial for everyone involved.

Whether it’s a corner of a farm, a field that isn’t being used, or a piece of woodland that’s been left to its own devices, please get in touch. You never know, it might just become the future home of Norðheim.

This is the first pile of timber donated specifically for future Norðheim.

These reclaimed log cabin gable ends were gifted to this week instead of being thrown away, and they are now officially being set aside for the village-to-come.

This is significant.

Because Norðheim is no longer just sketches, conversations and dreams around a fire. Piece by piece, it is beginning to physically exist.

One day this timber will become part of a workshop, market stall, shelter, wall, roof or longhouse within the village itself.

For now, it rests in the workshop awaiting its next life.

The old ways are not built in a day.
They are built piece by piece, by many hands.

You feel it now, even if you cannot quite explain it.

The exhaustion.
The constant noise.
The endless screens.
The feeling that modern life moves too fast for you to properly live inside it.

That feeling is part of why Norðheim exists.

A real place built around firelight, craftsmanship, nature, conversation, storytelling, and community.

A place where people slow down again.
Where things are made by hand.
Where evenings are spent around flames instead of notifications.

We are still at the beginning of the road, but every shelf built, every reclaimed plank rescued, every workshop light switched on at , every axe thrown at is quietly becoming part of that future.

Some places are built long before the first walls appear.

Something strange is happening.

For years, Norðheim has existed as sketches, conversations, late night planning sessions, rough ideas scratched onto bits of wood, and a vision that only a handful of people truly understood.

Now, for the first time… it is starting to feel real.

Nothing is confirmed yet, and we are staying cautious, but discussions are moving in the right direction regarding land for Norðheim. Quietly, behind the scenes, pieces are beginning to line up.

That changes things.

Not because Norðheim was ever a fantasy, but because there is a difference between dreaming of building something and standing at the edge of actually doing it.

Every axe thrown through , every reclaimed plank saved through every workshop attended, every kind word, every shared post, every supporter helping us push forward… all of it has slowly been building toward this moment.

No investors, No corporations, No fake Viking theme park nonsense.

Just real people trying to build something honest.

A place built around firelight instead of screens, Craft instead of consumption, Community instead of noise.

There is still a mountain of work ahead of us, but for the first time in a long time, Norðheim no longer feels distant.

It feels like something waiting to be built.

And that is both terrifying and beautiful.

We know we ask for support, shares, donations, and belief in something that, right now, still exists mostly in plans, reclaimed timber, and stubbornness.

The truth is simple.

We both work full time jobs for other people.
We run The Elderwood Project as a registered charity.
We run Northern Realms - The Ultimate Viking Experience.

Every spare hour, every spare bit of money, and every bit of energy goes into making Norðheim real.

And even at that pace, trying to fund land, materials, and the foundations of a living Viking village by ourselves could take us until the second Viking Age… if we are being optimistic.

That is why we keep asking.

Not because we expect handouts.
Because building something real takes a community.

So we have opened the Founders Circle of Norðheim.

This is another way for people who believe in what we are building to support it consistently and help us move faster toward securing the land and raising the first structures.
