Announcement

With the season now over we can confirm a few player departures from the club.

Lucas k
Will j
Jack c
Henry s
Tyler s

I want to first start off by saying I’ve known these boys for a long time now and I am gutted to be loosing them 😭

LUCAS K
where do I start I have wanted Lucas to play for us for some time now as he is a friend of my sons Lucas used to play for poppleton tigers and literally run riot in that squad I used to joke to him when I seen him Lucas are you sure you don’t want to play for me and he used to grin and say no I’m ok loyalty to his club but no good for me 🤣 but finally after a tough start for his team in a higher division he decided to join us when Lucas came into our team he added quality in terms of attitude and ability coach able and his performances on the pitch showed why he is such a top player having scored bucket loads of goals running riot with his high travelling speed with the ball and his deadly finishing. Lucas moves onto a new found passion of rugby league and I will get the pleasure of seeing him grow in that sport.

WILL J
Similar story a poppleton tigers powerhouse in midfield he joined our team as a shy lad at first getting used to new surroundings tall in statue will gave us something different a real work horse that seemed to have a engine that could run 10.000 miles in a game. Will a gentle giant off the field turned into a different beast come 2pm on a Sunday. Again will has found a new passion for rugby league something he is thriving at.

JACK C

Jack joined us 3 seasons ago from COPMANTHORPE and what a addition we got I remember at the time we was missing a real core in central midfield and when jack come in it was clear to see the desire jack had for the game and his team jack was very shy at the time he joined but certainly not shy on the pitch out of everyone in the team jack was always the first to get stuck into tackles that never say die attitude. Jack leaves as a team legend with been one of the longest serving players once again that dam rugby league 😆 has gained another top lad.

HENRY S

Our goalkeeper 🤲

Where do I begin to start with Henry goalkeeping is the most difficult place to be stood between the sticks young goalies can fold under the pressure and go into hiding when the going gets tough. Not Henry over the past 4 years Henry has been mr consistent always there and always willing to learn and put himself on the line literally …… one training session I will never forget a little bit of bad coaching I had forgot to bolt the goals down and on a windy day the goal come down and landed on top of Henry 🤦‍♂️🤯 in true Henry fashion he got straight back up after taking a heavy wack that literally summed HENNERS up no matter what he got up I have witnessed over the years some saves you see on the tv keeping us in a game on his own. To see the development over the years is why I coach Henry also leaves us to catch rugby balls instead. Henry is our longest serving player I’m sure he could of played in a higher league and team but stayed loyal to the club ❤️🫶

TYLER S

Tyler along with Henry is one of the OG players in the team Tyler didn’t say much as a young lad but as time went by he began to open up as he grew and now on match days wouldn’t stop talking 🤣 something I love the banter with the lads. Tyler a centre back an old fashioned no nonsense defender that would go straight through you if you dared to think you could just go past. Tyler reminded me of myself when I played takes no prisoners at all we tried to get rid of that trade mark toe b**g clearance however that is what Tyler was good at breaking up play and toe b**ging the life out of the ball why take away something that actually was very effective for him. Tyler isn’t playing rugby but has just decided to hang up his boots but maybe should consider playing as I for one would love to see it 🫶

The above lads that I have mentioned I cannot thank them enough for the loyalty commitment and effort they have shown to me the team and the club this is the reason i coach to see kids develop on the field and off it into young men 💪❤️🫡

defeat on the road 6.1 😞

Our unbeaten run has come to a end today away at heslerton.

Match report

Conditions were not on our side today rain bucketing it down before kick off wind started to pick up felt like a Sunday in November.

Dringy started the game fast and got an early lead through Lucas k 1.0 after 9 minutes of play. After this we literally shut down and heslerton really cranked up the pressure ball after ball was played forward at speed from the heslerton side a massive positive in our game today was Callum h he really read the game today and stepped in to win the ball back countless of times in the first half this is something we push Callum h to do as we know he has the quality to do so. With halftime looming we was thinking get in and regroup as we felt we was riding our luck and 1 minute to go heslerton struck a well deserved leveller.

Half time 1.1

2nd half we had a little bit of a team crisis as Lucas k couldn’t continue and our goalkeeper Henry s sadly picking up knocks and ruled them out of the game Theo m stepped upto the mark and put the goalie jersey on.

2nd half underway it started very much how the 1st ended heslerton way ontop of the game by this time both teams very completely soaked and freezing and our luck got even worse when big will also pulling up with a injury now playing with 10 men it was going to be a long afternoon and that it proved with heslerton showing some real quality in possession some fantastic solo goals put the home side well out of sight heslerton we’re good value today with 11v11 as they had no subs it’s fantastic to see a team low on numbers digging in for each other in horrendous conditions and they got there rewards with a dominant 6.1 win 👏.

The boys were rightly disappointed with there performance today however some times you have to take your defeat and move on and applaud the other team for there efforts.

Man of the match today was Callum h his performance today didn’t deserve to be on the loosing side as I have mentioned he showed us today when he is confident he is a fantastic centre back stepping in heading the ball away reading play 🫶

Player departure 😢

Mason has decided to hang up his football boots as he has found a new passion for rugby league.

Mason has been with us 3 years over two spells. Mason gave everything he had for the team and his team mates he was a pleasure to coach always had a first class attitude to training it’s been a pleasure watching a shy boy at 10 years old grow into the warrior he is on a pitch 💪 go smash your rugby journey down at York acorn 🌽🫶🫡

Match report

Dringhouses 2 York R.I 2

Today we travelled to new lane what looked like a veg patch we had a few challenges today with our top scorer Lucas k only available for the first half and our other striker mason g injured it was a chance for other players to show what they could do.

Straight from the off we started the game quickly breaking up play something we had challenged the boys from last week we felt the midfield as a whole were stepping off players far too easily. This wasn’t the case today as a unit the midfield 3 seemed to be dictating play and York ri found it hard to get any real momentum going. It wasn’t long before we started to create chances from the hard yards put in from the midfield trio jack c been the stand out of the 3 showing us what he can do when his mentality is high big will breaking up play and getting us moving. The York ri keeper was called into action on many occasion in the first half denying Lucas k 3 times within the space of 5 minutes. Mason g only managed 9 minutes of the game but forced a brilliant stop from the ri keeper from a first time strike. Tails up and hunting for a opener it came on the 23rd minute when a pin point strike flew into the top corner from jacky bell wooooooo 👻 we was so pleased for jack as I mentioned last week after a horrible injury he has come back into the side and really worked hard to get hisself fit and on the pitch once again. Lucas k was yet again in a attacking position after been denied 3 times by the ri keeper but this time he struck on the 34th minute.

2.0 halftime

2nd half was much more of the same loui h was like a terrier throwing himself at everything hustling to carve out chances again the ri keeper had other ideas to keep his team in the game. Ri started to find some momentum and went with a direct approach to there pacey striker. With time ticking away I felt our boys maybe thought the game was done.

Big mistake at any level of football the ball dropped in the box which took a deflection off a ri man which ended up in the back of the net.

Tails up from York ri and rightly so they believed they would get another chance for all there efforts and some fantastic goalkeeping deserved them having a chance at securing a point. And it came with 1 minute left on the clock after some slack defending in the box final score 2.2

Overall a point is a fair result but we have to stay switched on for a full 70 minutes I feel as tho as a team we left that game wide open thinking the game was done and dusted at 2.0 and as everybody knows football isn’t done until it’s done credit to York ri 👏
