Dr. Ato Baah Forson Minister Designate for Finance under President John Dramani Mahama has promised to abolish the Betting tax in his first budget.
During vetting today January 13th 2025, Dr. Baah said Ghanaians are suffering with the numerous taxes. "The idea of betting tax is very bad and it's making most Ghanaians to suffer foe that matter I will abolish it in my first budget."
Dr. Baah also promised to scrap the E-Levy and replace it with Road Toll.

EC must begin processes to implement ROPAL – Political scientist

Political Scientist Dr. Kwame Asaah Asante, has said that the Electoral Commission (EC) cannot chicken out on the implementation of the Representation of the People’s Amendment Law (ROPAL).

This follows a threat by the Progressive Alliance Movement, an alliance of Ghanaians living abroad, to sue the Electoral Commission for contempt of court, claiming the Commission ignored the court’s ruling on the Representation of the ROPAL which
Parliament passed in 2006.

The Law mandates the EC to make provisions for Ghanaians living abroad to vote in national elections. After the law was passed in 2006, little was done with it between 2008 and 2011.

A committee was set up to make recommendations on the way forward for the EC. The Committee submitted its report in September 2011. In 2016, the Progressive Alliance Movement took the matter to court seeking orders to compel the EC to implement ROPAL.

Their reliefs were granted and EC set up another committee to look into the modalities for implementation. But the EC is yet to begin the process.

It’s 2024, months to the general election and there is no clear-cut directive from the EC on ROPAL. The Alliance that has been at the forefront of the advocacy has threatened to again go to the courts for what they describe as the EC being in contempt of court.

Speaking on the matter, Dr. Asante said the EC must immediately begin the process even if it is cumbersome.

According to him, “the law says universal adult suffrage and that should allow for all to exercise their rights as citizens of the country as stated in the law”.

“Look at the contributions of those abroad to this country even with remittances, and when it comes to making it possible for them to vote you want to chicken out, no the EC cannot do that”, he state

TWO PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR CAUSING DAMAGE TO ROAD AND ERECTING UNAUTHORISED SPEED RAMP ON THE HO - SOGAKOPE ROAD

The Police have arrested two persons in connection with the er****on of an unauthorised speed ramp along the Ho – Sogakope highway in the Volta Region.

The two suspects, Saviour Azakasi and Quarshie Godson, were seen in a viral video, in the company of other suspects, causing damage to the highway with concrete blocks and other materials.

Both suspects are currently in custody assisting investigation while efforts are underway to get the other suspects arrested.

Mr. Obed Kwaku Akoto the Radio Male Newscaster of yesterday during the green Ghana day, he was spotted planting trees. Speaking to some of his colleagues, he said, "it would be nice it all citizens would understand the initiative by planting more tress. The three Evangelist on a three day Revival Mission.
The three ordained Evangelist of THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH GHANA namely Evangelist Divine Dekonor (middle) Evangelist Phanuel Totime (right) and Evangelist Obed Kwaku Akoto Jnr. on a three days Revival Mission at Battor oversee (Battor Kledeke) the program is to revive the entire church and also lead them in Prayers to cross the 31st of December, 2021.
The program started on the 29th of December, 2021 starting with a sermon from Evangelist OBED KWAKU AKOTO on the Theme KNOWING YOUR STAND AS A CHRISTIAN (Mathew 26:36-40) after which he lead them in a 1hour 30minutes prayers he again lead them in the evening section on the Theme BEING A GOOD CHANGE MAKER ACCORDING TO GOD'S PATTERN (Nehemiah 1:1-10) after which he lead them in Prayers together with Evangelist Divine along side with Evangelist Phanuel.
The second day being the 30th of December, 2021 continue with a down broadcast at two information centres one at Battor Ngorlekpoi and Battor Torgodo Nutifafa Information center both on the Theme The second coming of Christ is near.
Evangelist Phanuel Totime continue with the morning section to preach on the Theme, Soul winning. (Psalm 90:1) after which he lead us in Prayers.
