we've come a long way
đ Yes We've made a lot of huge strides, and it's awesome once again for we to reflect on how far đ we've come. let me introduce you to the crosley iceball refrigerator.
This was an unusual refrigerator that operated with no moving mechanical parts and required no electricity.
The device worked by heating a metal unit called the âballâ on a stove for about 90 minutes. This heating cycle forced ammonia gas out of a solution and stored it under pressure.
After heating, the unit was placed back onto the refrigerator box, where the ammonia slowly evaporated and absorbed heat from inside the cabinet, creating a cooling effect.
Once charged, the system could provide more than 24 hours of refrigeration before needing to be heated again. Because it required only occasional heating and had no mechanical components, the IcyBall was especially attractive for homes without electricity in the early 20th century.

Certification of HVACR Technicians L. I. 2503
The Refrigeration & Air conditioning industry in Ghana is finally taking that step,Certification of RAC technicians
The Environmental Protection (EPA Refrigeration and Air Conditioning certification) L.I. 2503
Just like the Energy Commission (Electrical wiring) Regulation, 2011 (L.I. 2008) for streamlining electrical wiring practices by Energy Commission of Ghana.
The purpose of the new regulation is to:
a) regulate emissions of refrigerants from the refrigeration and air conditioning sector to
i) prevent ozone depletion; and
ii) respond to climate change and the effect of climate change on the environment and hunan health.
(b) provide for the requirements, procedures and practices to ensure that the standards for refrigeration and air conditioning
i) installation,
ii) testing,
iii) maintenance,
iv) Servicing,
v) decommissioning, and
vi) disposal
are complied with.
(c) ensure the safe handling of equipment and refrigerants that are approved by the Authority in accordance with the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer;
(d) ensure that emissions from refrigeration and air conditioning installation, testing, maintenance, servicing, decommissioning amd disposal do not impact the environment and public health; and
(e) ensure compliance with the Code of Practice for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems and Heat Pumps Standard (GS 1383) as may be reviewed from time to time by Ghana Standards Authority

This is one of the most asked questions we got from junior techs during this yearâs exhibition:
A compressor operating with two different types of refrigerant (R32 / R410A)
This does NOT mean:
- The compressor is running with both refrigerants at the same time. NO!!!
- You can shift from one refrigerant to another anytime you want. NO!!!
It just means the motor windings and compression mechanisms (plus the type of oil the equipment manufacturer uses) allow this compressor to work with either R32 or R410A.
Besides that, the other refrigeration components need to be designed according to the compressor manufacturerâs specifications and requirements.
1)Pressure Compatibility: R32 and R410A operate at similar high pressures (both much higher than R22). This compressor is built for high-pressure refrigerants.
2)Oil Compatibility: R32 and R410A use POE or PVE oil, but R32 uses a higher viscosity than R410A because R32 has higher discharge temperatures.
3)Efficiency: R32 is more efficient than R410A, so you'll need less per pound to do the same work. This is very important because youâll either end up overcharging or undercharging the unit.
4)Safety Note: R32 is mildly flammable (A2L), so safety measures must be followed.
Always check the nameplate for the type of refrigerant and required quantity. Never top up R410A with R32 or vice versa.
