‘We need a squad to compete on all four fronts’: Virgil van Dijk sends transfer message to Liverpool
Virgil van Dijk hints he wants more new players to come through the door at Liverpool in the final days of the summer transfer window.
“Listen, we need everyone to be fit,” said the captain when asked what the Reds need to improve on last season.
“We need a squad that’s able to compete on all four fronts, and that’s the only way to be successful.
“Let’s see what the last couple of weeks of the transfer window will bring, and we’re going to go for it.”
So far, Liverpool have only signed Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz on permanent deals, as well as Ronald Araujo on loan.
The Reds are desperate to sign at least one more winger, with Bradley Barcola their key target.

Inter agree deal to sign Curtis Jones from Liverpool – Romano
Inter Milan have reached an agreement to sign Curtis Jones from Liverpool, according to Fabrizio Romano.
A verbal deal is in place worth a €35m package fee, with the player also agreed and a medical now being scheduled.
The move brings an end to Jones’ time at Anfield, where the 25-year-old came through the academy before establishing himself as a first-team regular over several seasons. His versatility across midfield made him a valuable squad option under multiple managers.
Jones made 34 Premier League appearances last season, contributing 1 goal and 2 assists for Liverpool.
The homegrown midfielder now heads to Serie A to begin a new chapter with Cristian Chivu’s Inter side.

Jérémy Jacquet Makes Impressive Liverpool Debut
Jérémy Jacquet made an excellent first appearance for Liverpool in their final pre-season fixture, helping the Reds secure a 2–0 victory over Como at Anfield. The 21-year-old centre-back started alongside captain Virgil van Dijk and immediately looked comfortable in Liverpool’s defence. Despite making his first appearance for the club, Jacquet showed composure in possession, strong positioning and confidence in his challenges.
His debut became even more memorable in the 44th minute, when he found the back of the net to give Liverpool a two-goal lead. Cody Gakpo had opened the scoring earlier in the match. Jacquet was substituted at half-time, with Ronald Araújo replacing him. Liverpool went on to maintain their clean sheet and finish pre-season with a convincing victory.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola was pleased with the performances of his new defenders, while Jacquet’s partnership with Van Dijk provided an encouraging glimpse of what Liverpool’s defence could look like this season.
The Verdict Although it was only a pre-season match, Jacquet could hardly have asked for a better introduction to Liverpool supporters: 45 minutes, a goal and a clean sheet. With Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Newcastle approaching, the young defender has given Iraola plenty to think about.

‘I have more freedom to fly up and down’: Milos Kerkez enjoying Iraola’s Liverpool style
Milos Kerkez has admitted he is enjoying the greater attacking freedom he has been given since reuniting with Andoni Iraola at Liverpool.
The Hungary international joined Liverpool from Bournemouth for around £40 million last summer but endured a difficult first season at Anfield under Arne Slot.
Kerkez previously spent two seasons working under Iraola at Bournemouth and believes the new Liverpool manager has already brought significant changes to the team’s style.
“Everyone hopes so (that Iraola can deliver special times). I mean, it’s a big difference, obviously.
“We play really aggressive. We need to run a lot more. It is good. It is tough, but if you want to compete at the top, you need to do that in the Champions League, the Premier League.
“You can see I have more freedom to fly up and down. I’m really running more, with more freedom, putting more balls into boxes.
“The manager gave me confidence when I was in Bournemouth. We all have to do what he tells us to do. Play aggressive, front-foot, so we need to continue,” Kerkez has said.

Liverpool open to signing two wingers this summer, depending on Cody Gakpo future — Romano
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are still considering signing two new wingers in the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window.
The Reds remain linked with Bradley Barcola as their priority target and his PSG teammate Ibrahim Mbaye as one of several options on the right.
However, Liverpool will only move for two new forwards if they part ways with one of their own.
Cody Gakpo is one to watch, as Tottenham have stepped up their interest in the Dutchman.

PSG reject two Liverpool offers for Bradley Barcola
Paris Saint-Germain have rejected two offers from Liverpool for Bradley Barcola despite being open to the winger’s departure this summer, according to L’Equipe.
The French champions have already made plans to cope with spending the entire season without the 23-year-old, whose contract with PSG runs until 2028. However, the club are not prepared to lower their asking price.
L’Equipe reports that Liverpool have submitted two bids for the France international. The first was worth €100 million, while the second increased to €110 million, with both proposals rejected by PSG.
The Paris club are reportedly expecting an offer of at least €160 million before considering Barcola’s sale.
Liverpool are not giving up on the deal, however, and are expected to return with another proposal for the former Lyon winger next week.
