🌿 There is something extraordinary about the way a mastiha tree responds to adversity.
When the bark is carefully incised, the tree doesn’t retreat. It begins to heal.
The precious resin we call mastiha is, in fact, the tree’s natural response to injury. Drop by drop, it protects itself, creating the crystal tears that have defined the landscape, culture, and identity of Chios for centuries.
Perhaps that is the greatest lesson the mastiha tree can teach us: resilience is built not in the absence of wounds. But in what we choose to create from them.

🌿 What a gift it is to welcome members of our Mastiha Roots family back to Chios.
This weekend, we welcomed the Greek America Foundation once again. We hadn't seen each other since 2022, and it felt as though no time had passed.
Together, we walked through the mastiha groves once more, caught up on the moments we had missed, and experienced the warmth and hospitality that make this place feel like home.
Thank you for returning to the island and for continuing to celebrate the story of mastiha with us. We can't wait until our paths cross again. 🌿

Just as the same painting would never look quite the same on a different canvas, a mastiha tear would never become what it is without asprohomatisma.
The time has come once again for the soil beneath each mastiha tree to be covered with finely sifted white limestone. This clean, bright layer creates the ideal surface for every precious tear to fall, harden naturally under the summer sun, and remain pure until it is carefully collected.
For the mastiha growers of Chios, it has become a familiar ritual repeated year after year. Yet behind its simplicity lies generations of knowledge, patiently passed down from one family to the next, serving as a quiet reminder that every work of art depends on the surface that receives it.

We were delighted to welcome the students and participants of the Alexandria Institute to the mastiha groves of Chios. Together, we had the opportunity to experience firsthand the cultivation of this unique natural treasure and learn about the people, traditions, and generations of knowledge that continue to keep it alive.
There is no better way to understand the story of mastiha than to walk among the trees where it has been cultivated for centuries.

Meet Will, a member of the Mastiha Roots family whose roots trace back to Chios.
During their recent visit to the island, Will and his mom wanted to experience something special: to see firsthand the cultivation of mastiha and connect with the land, the people, and the tradition behind it. There is something truly meaningful about welcoming adopters into the groves and sharing the story of mastiha where it all begins.

Vessa is one of the island’s hidden treasures with its stone architecture, quiet alleys, and the scent of wild herbs and sea air drifting through in early summer.
The groves are resting now, and the island is slowly awakening. A quiet season, just before the island welcomes you back to create more memories, co-create, and celebrate that tradition of mastiha with us💚

Today the Issue 114 of the Blue Magazine is out and it features a special tribute to Chios, its landscapes, local craftsmanship, gastronomy, and the people who continue to keep its traditions alive through generations.
Mastiha Roots was also included as a way of connecting the heritage of Chios and the story of mastiha with the rest of the word. Connecting people to the land, the cultivation process, and the living heritage of the mastiha villages.
We couldn't be happier to seeing mastiha recognized not only as a product, but as a symbol of culture, resilience, and community. Thank you Magazine for helping the story of Chios travel further and for celebrating the roots that make this island so special. 🌿

Last Wednesday, we had the honor of attending the presentation of Kostas Krommydas’ new book, “Το Λιμάνι μου είσαι εσύ” — a story inspired by Chios, mastiha, and the deep connection of the island to the sea and its people. 🌿⚓
We would like to congratulate Kostas Krommydas and thank him for allowing Lenia to become part of the book’s first reading team before publication. We are truly grateful to have contributed as insight experts on the cultivation, processing, and harvesting of mastiha.
The book is expected to be translated into English in the near future, allowing the story of Chios to travel even beyond Greek borders, and bring more people closer to a heritage that continues to shape our communities through generations.
