[10 - 16 years old Class]
At this age, reassurance and acceptance are what we find most important to guide teens to do the right thing and have integrity. Strong support helps them develop confidence and positive reinforcement reassures their actions.

With the growing ability to see the consequences of different actions, the younger age group can learn from the older and the older group can learn through taking on responsibility to take care of others.

[6 – 9 years old Class]
From 6 – 9 years old, children transition from Early Childhood to Middle Childhood. This is an important age to shape good behaviour and discipline, where we focus our objectives on the social and emotional development.

On the physical side, we place our focus on balance and coordination. Students will learn advance moves such as 360, spinning hook kicks, and different jump kicks.

For those who are ready, they will have a first-hand experience with kyrougi (Sparring).

[3 - 5 years old class]
From 3 – 5 years old, children go through tremendous physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, and linguistic development. This age group is a part of the early childhood stage and the human brain grows to 90% of its adult size by age 3.

Therefore, every milestone is significant. If children experience inadequate caregiving, environmental stressors, and other negative risk factors, it can affect the brain and may seriously compromise a child’s physical, social-emotional, and cognitive growth and development.

In this class, we often focus on learning through play. We’ve applied the research and philosophy of Piaget so that these students will learn basic motor skills such as kicks, punches, and blocks. We also challenge their memory by practicing poomsae and noticing patterns.

[How belt works and what do they represent?]
Belt are separated into "junior" and "senior" ranks colloquially referred to as "color belts" and "black belts".

The senior section of ranks is represented by a black belt and it has nine ranks. Each rank is called a dan 단 (段), and the highest rank would be known as a Black Belt 9th Dan.

In order for you to advance at any dan, there are common elements to every test: forms (poomsae), sparring, breaking, and “special technique”.

Depending on the dan level you are seeking, written work, a physical exam, and travel may be required:

For 3th dan, an essay on Taekwondo is required.

Above 4th dan, a thesis is required.

Above 5th dan, travel to South Korea is required.

Master Marshall is currently a 4th Dan Black Belt qualified by Kukkiwon.

Previously we talked about the belt systems and how each represents the breakthrough of obstacles. We use the belt system to instill confidence, but we are aware that the teaching of self confidence doesn't come from the belt system alone. It acts as a guideline. Self confidence is instilled from achieving set goals; it comes from the way instructors interact with the students, from the encouragement from peers, and the trust from parents. We strive to not only be Taekwondo instructors, but Educators to groom better people.

“Blue is the color of the sky and shows that the student is reaching up to the sky. The belt symbolizes ambition. At this rank, the student must also grow their humility and patience.” - Integrity Martial Arts Blog

This is our partner dojang in Korea. Here we have their demonstration team performing a choreography the senior students have created. As a new dojang in Hong Kong, we are unable to duplicate the same discipline, but as Seungkyu Taekwondo continues to mature, we are confident that we can achieve the same with our students and compete globally.

Yellow Belt with Green stripe to Green Belt with Blue stripe are the middle ranks of the Junior belts. The yellow belt symbolizes a seed which metaphorically suggests the student has begun its journey in Taekwondo to grow. It also represents gold, which means the truth and it serves as a reminder to self that one should hold integrity to him/herself.
