Paddling was something I only got do a couple of times in my younger years. That was from a few camps and family friends inviting me along. It wasn’t something I really got to try until I was a university student. Since then, it has become a huge part of my life for work, recreation, and social connection.
It’s awesome being part of people’s development into such an amazing form of travel. Here’s to more years to come running rivers and exploring areas 🌊.

The weekend was spent with down at Bowman Bay helping run a foundations course for sea kayaking. Over the two days paddlers worked on improving fundamental movement skills, familiarising with standard gear and equipment, basics of planning, and how to rescue yourself and assisting others.
This is an excellent course for paddlers new to sea kayaking or those looking for a refresher. Check out for this course and many others 🤙. They’ve even got a retail shop, rentals, and can do some repair work!

I’ve added the Fourteen Carbon iSUP to the quiver of boards. I’ve had it out twice now where I started in some protected water, and then moved into some F4 gusting to F5 winds 💨 with 1-2’ chop 🌊. The board handled well into and across the wind and did fine catching some of the wind waves on the run.
Looking forward to getting it out in some different conditions along with trailing out the 3 piece carbon paddle that came with the set. The wheeled backpack that comes with is pretty sharp. Plenty of pockets and adjustment straps 🤩.

Spring is making way to summer and looking forward to more pleasant conditions out on the waterways. Testing out the Proto PFD and Emperor drysuit and Class 6 skirt on a day scoping out Port Renfrew.
In other news, I’ve upgraded my Instructor Trainer certification in sea kayaking to Level 4. A big shout out to for helping me through that process 🙏.

Stellar weekend at the inaugural Salish Sea Kayak Symposium! Forgot my camera 📸 and generally had my phone tucked away 🤣 so minimal shots. I suspect more videos and photos will be popping up soon 🤔.
It was great to connect with coaches and paddlers I’ve met over the years as well as make a bunch of new connections 🥳. We had an engaging and supportive group of folks come out, which makes it all the more worthwhile. Great times and company on and off the water.

Down in the southeast for a short personal trip and able to squeeze a quick run on the Chattooga with several laps on Bull Sluice. Also took some time to practice some rescues while in a warmer climate before returning to some snow melt rivers 🥶.
The Emperor drysuit did its job in keeping me comfortable while paddling, rolling, and rescue practice 🌊🤙.

The Emperor drysuit has arrived in time as whitewater season begins and the Salish Sea Kayak Symposium quickly approaches. Looking forward to trying out the new Class 6 spray deck in some surf and tide races 🌊. Never fun having your skirt implode 😭.
