A huge thank you to Outdoor Swimmer Magazine for the feature, and to Amy Miao and Brett Kruse for capturing the spirit of the challenge.
This swim was always about more than a record; it was about exploring the limits of what's possible in these waters we call home. Sharing it with this global swimming community means the world.

In a performance that left us all in awe, South Africa’s Waris Mills didn’t just complete the course - she redefined it.
Becoming the youngest ever (23yrs) to finish is a monumental feat on its own. But to then shave a staggering 7 minutes and 8 seconds off the outright record, clocking an unbelievable 10:35:58... that’s the mark of a true pioneer.
The future of marathon swimming is incredibly bright. 🌟
Congratulations, Waris and team!

In less than 12 hours, Waris Mills attempts the HK360 swim solo, set to become the youngest person ever to do so.
Her connection to Hong Kong runs deep - she lived here as a teenager and won local races. Now an accomplished athlete, she has swum at a national level in the UK and represented South Africa in multiple World Lifesaving and Canoe Slalom Championships.
Despite training challenges in South Africa‘s cold, predator-filled seas, she has been acclimatizing in HK since October. The conditions are right. The 2:30 am start is set.

Wishing you a strong swim, Waris!

Honouring Linda Carol McGill (1946–2025)
With profound respect, we celebrate the life of Linda Carol McGill, the trailblazing Australian swimmer whose legacy spanned Olympic pools to some of the world’s most formidable open waters.
In 1976, McGill made history as the first person ever to complete the 48.3 km swim around Hong Kong Island - a feat of endurance that remained unbroken for over four decades. Her legendary 17-hour swim stood unmatched for 41 years - until Simon Holliday’s 2017 attempt (12h 32m) and Alex Fong’s 2019 record (10h 43m).
As organisers of the modern HK360 Swim, we recognise McGill as the pioneer who inspired this iconic challenge. Her tenacity and courage continue to ripple through every swimmer who traces her path.
Rest in power, Linda. Your strokes inspired generations. 🌊✨

Good things never come easy! With three typhoons hitting HK one after another, and two PLA warships visiting right after, we had no choice but to postpone the swim to December… and tonight’s the night! are you ready? With this swim, Brett is raising funds for the extraordinary SPLASH , an NGO that has taught thousands of people how to swim—for free!
