Posted • First ever Experiential Learning Week with Dragonfly ✅

Experiential learning is typically known as “learning by doing” - hands on experiences of real world concepts outside the classroom. While students definitely learned some real world skills, like orienteering with an actual map 🗺️ and compass 🧭 (RIP Google Maps), kayaking in open water 🛶, and using a harness for canyoning 🧗‍♀️, I think the biggest learning experience for these students was the concept of resilience and perseverance. 💪🏽

Every day started with some variation of “I can’t do this” or “I want to go home” 😉 and I get it! because hiking, kayaking and canyoning are tough physical activities that challenge the body and the mind.

Nonetheless, every single student was able to overcome these mental hindrances and challenge their bodies to do exercises and activities they have never done before! Every day they got through the challenges and made it to the end and learned the biggest lesson of all - I DID IT. I CAN DO IT!

So sometimes experiential learning is about the concepts and skills you learn outside the school walls. But sometimes it is simply learning more about yourself and pushing yourself to achieve things you think you can’t do. And as a teacher, it is amazing to see your own students experience this and succeed in ways no assignments or tests could ever capture.

🏞River exploration is one of the enjoyable activities for kids to take their first step towards experiencing nature.

Our AIS G1 students have proven that age is just a number when it comes to learning and having fun in the great outdoors!🤟🏻😎

This is Kinoti, from Kenya.🇰🇪

Kinoti grew up in the countryside and always had a close relationship with the outdoors and nature,🏞inspiring him to begin his career in this field a few years ago.
Some of Kinoti’s favorite activities to do and teach are hiking, camping, climbing, canyoning, and kayaking.😎

The thing he loves most about working at , in addition to the time spent in nature, is getting to interact with so many colleagues and friends who have similar passions.❤️‍🔥

🤪Fun Fact: In his free time, you will find Kinoti practicing his acrobatic skills – he’s a pro at handstands!🤸
