Same Coach as Virat Kohli, Different Destiny | Playing for Hong Kong | Ankur Vasishta Story 21/11/2025

The Ankur Vasishta Story - Delhi to Hong Kong
https://youtu.be/x9Ij2jcjS7A?si=eunRsKxBhAEwbfDW

Ankur Vasishta trained at West Delhi Cricket Academy under Raj Kumar Sharma, the same coach who trained Virat Kohli. Virat was his junior at the academy in 1997-98. But while Virat captained India, Ankur's journey took him to represent Hong Kong in international cricket, play for two countries, and build his own cricket empire without any government support.

From 2003 to 2014, Ankur represented Hong Kong as a wicket-keeper batsman in ODIs and T20 Internationals while balancing a full-time job, the reality of associate nation cricket.

He played Hong Kong Sixes three times: twice for Hong Kong (2003, 2007) and once for India (2011) when Indian players got injured. Today, he's the third person in Hong Kong to own a private cricket ground, runs India Club Cricket Academy with 120+ kids across 17 teams, and is building Hong Kong's first day-night cricket ground. Two of his students are now playing U19 World Cup for Hong Kong.

In this episode, Ankur shares what it was like training under the same coach as Virat Kohli, his unforgettable ODI debut in 2014, the harsh realities of cricket in associate nations, managing cricket legends like Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik at the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, and his advice for young cricketers facing limited resources. This is the honest, unfiltered story of choosing passion over fame and making an impact wherever your journey takes you.

Ankur Sharma steals the show with a heroic ton in one of the best knocks of the season!
Teleshop Indians (The Champions) won the Grade-1 KCC Morning Cricket League for the 3rd time after beating Sky Warriors Marvels by 8 wickets.
Ankur Sharma won the 'Player of the League' and 'Best Batsman of the League' awards, and Bodhi Guha was declared the 'Best Bowler of the League'.
Sky Warriors Marvels: 201 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs
Teleshop Indians: 202 runs for 2 wickets in 17.5 overs
Sky Warriors Marvels batted first and had an ideal start to their innings, surpassing 100 runs by the 7th over without any loss of wickets. Following the departure of both openers however, the run flow shrank away from the predicted 250 and petered out at 201 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Shivang Baid was the top scorer of the Marvels with 73 runs off 32 balls including 14 elegant boundaries and 2 powerful sixes that landed on the swimming pool deck. The way he was going about his innings, it felt like he would have a total of 150+ runs but the Teleshop Indians' skipper Ankur Sharma brought his slow spinners out and they quickly brought an end to the Marvels' momentum.
The accompanying opener, Saumil Shah, who was playing with a fractured finger scored a very useful 26 runs off 18 balls including 3 classic fours and a six. The hero of the semi-finals, Harsh Jogani, lost his wicket at 10 runs with a six snuck in. Pranay Doshi also lost his wicket earlier than expected, delivering an easy catch to Ankur Sharma after scoring 22 runs with 2 sixes. Shail Morakhia played his role to the tee with some extraordinary shots outlining his 38 runs off just 20 balls including 3 fours and 3 heavyweight sixes. Sagar Modi also scored 16 runs at the end.
The pick of the bowlers were Mohit Savaria and Farooq Saeed who shared 2 important wickets each. Ankur Sharma and Smit Virani shared one wicket each.
202 runs to win the title of the league and bag a hat trick victory was a dream for the Teleshop Indians, a dream which they executed to reality through sheer confidence and powerful batting from Ankur Sharma.
Ankur remained not out on 123 runs off just 51 balls including 8 dominant sixes and 14 aggressive boundaries, slashing through the Marvels' bowling attack. Opener Nitin Bansal offered great support to Ankur, and the two had a 95 runs, 2nd wicket partnership. Nitin scored 37 runs including 2 sixes and 3 fours. The accompanying opener, Mohit Savaria, was out on 17 runs with 2 fours. Fareeq Saeed remained not out until the end, scoring 19 runs including 2 boundaries.
Rushil Panchiwala was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets.
Man of the Match: Ankur Sharma
Player of the League: Ankur Sharma
Best Batsman of the League: Ankur Sharma (630 runs)
Best Bowler of the League: Bodi Guha (11 Wickets)
Grade-1 Runner Up: Sky Warriors Marvels
Grade-1 Champions: Teleshop Indians
