The mission was supposed to be over.
But the look in the eyes says otherwise.
There’s always one more corner to clear.
One more threat in the dark.
One more mission before we can finally rest.

Camo on, eyes forward, mindset locked in.
This is where discipline becomes instinct.
“No mission too difficult, no sacrifice too great. Duty first!”

We are carrying out a **clean-house mission**, moving through a ruined building with weapons ready as we clear each entry point for threats.

“Within every soldier beats a heart of courage—steady, unyielding, and born for moments that test the soul.”

I can feel it out here.
My whole squad is gone. Not killed… just taken. Lifted off the ground by something I couldn’t see, couldn’t track. One second they were beside me, the next—nothing but branches shaking overhead and that awful clicking sound.
Whatever’s hunting me isn’t human. It bends the light around itself, like a ghost wrapped in heat. I only ever catch a shimmer, just enough to know it’s close. Too close.
I’m the last one now.
I can feel its eyes on me, even if I can’t see it. Every time I move, it shifts. Every time I breathe, it listens. It wants me scared. It wants me tired. It wants me to run so it can chase.
But I won’t.
If this thing wants me, it’s going to have to fight for it. I’m not going down like the others. Not quietly. Not hiding.
I raise my rifle, steady my breath, and wait.

I’m slumped against this tree, exhaustion dragging at every muscle, but I can’t let myself drift—not now. The forest is too quiet, the kind of quiet that comes before something bad. My camo fades into the dead leaves, rifle resting heavy in my hands as I wait for the enemy’s next assault. I’m tired, worn thin, but I stay ready, because out here one moment of weakness is all it takes to lose everything.
