We normally think of gaining muscle mass when people are injected with anabolic steroids
This study provided details about body fat levels as well In this study, 7 young males (nonathletes; 20-24 years old) were injected with testosterone enanthate (an anabolic steroid) for 12 weeks
They received -3mg / kg each week for 12 weeks, for an average cumulative dose of 42 mg / kg, with a range of 39 to 49 mg / kg
After 12 weeks of injections, let's just say there was some body recomposition happening!
The subjects gained an average of 16 pounds (7.5kg) of lean body mass, and lost an average of 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg) of body fat .
NOTE : Total body water was not measured in this study so we are not able to account for this variable in the lean body mass measures]
Only 1 of the 7 subjects exercised regularly during this study, so it is safe to assume that the body composition changes reported in this study were from the effects of the anabolic steroid
Another interesting thing that this study did was continue to obtain body composition measures for up to 5 months after the testosterone enanthate injections stopped
In the 5 - month period after the injections stopped, the body composition changes were nearly 100% reversed
Swipe left to see a figure of this study, highlighting the increases in lean body mass and losses of body fat during the 12 - weeks of injections; and then the subsequent loss of lean body mass and increases of fat mass back to approximately what the subjects had at the start of the study
Some of you are too young to know this, but there was a time when some segments of the media and health experts "claimed that anabolic steroids were not effective .
If you happen to hear something like this today
Just Laugh
