🌍 What can sport do for sustainability? A lot more than you might think! 🏐

The Sustainable Goals through Sport (SGS) project brings together organisations and young people from Europe and Africa 🤝🌍 to explore how sport can be used as a tool for sustainability education, youth participation, inclusion and community action. 🌱 Through international activities, learning opportunities and local events, SGS turns the Sustainable Development Goals into something people can experience, discuss and act on - not just read about. 💡

On 22 August, we took this idea to the volleyball court in Budapest to celebrate UN International Youth Day with an amateur 4x4 mixed beach volleyball tournament at Margaret Island. ☀️🏐

But this tournament came with a twist! 👀 Alongside the volleyball matches, teams took part in interactive challenges connected to the Sustainable Development Goals, sustainability, teamwork and inclusion. 🌱🙋‍♀️🤝 Their challenge points were added to their match results, meaning success wasn’t just about what happened on the court! 🏆

This event was organised as part of the Sustainable Goals through Sport (SGS) project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union 🇪🇺.

During the 7-day programme, participants visited different youth-focused organisations, explored various approaches to youth work and engagement, exchanged experiences with other professionals and gathered practical ideas to bring back to their own communities. 🤝

From learning and reflection to networking and new connections, the Study Visit was a great opportunity to discover new perspectives and get inspired by the work of organisations supporting young people. 🌍

Last Sunday, BAIS joined forces with Parasolka 🇺🇦 to organise a fun afternoon on Margaret Island for a group of Ukrainian children fleeing from the war! 🤝🌳

From volleyball and football to team-building challenges and playful activities, the afternoon was all about moving, cooperating, learning and, most importantly, having fun together! 🤝 Through non-formal education and learning through play, the children had the opportunity to develop teamwork, communication and cooperation skills in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. 🌱✨ It was amazing to see them getting involved, supporting each other and creating new connections through sport and play! 🏃‍♀️🏐⚽

Beyond the games themselves, the afternoon was about creating a welcoming space where the children could connect, be active, make new friends and simply enjoy spending time together. 💙💛 Sport has a wonderful way of bringing people together, breaking down barriers and creating shared experiences and this afternoon was a great example of that.

This activity was organised as part of SEMY, an Erasmus+ project co-funded by the European Union, which promotes the inclusion of disadvantaged groups through sport, informal learning and community activities. 🇪🇺🌍
