🌺 Ngā Hoe Horo – Singapore 2026 🌺

In a few weeks, Ngā Hoe Horo will once again be represented on the world stage.

As one of the founding clubs of Waka Ama in Aotearoa we’ve invited everyone representing our club internationally to spend some time in Pawarenga, where Ngā Hoe Horo was born and where wakaama was first launched.

Before we head to Singapore, we’re inviting all of our paddlers, their whānau, past members and supporters to join us for a relaxed evening together.

Kaitiakitanga Action for Te Tai Tokerau

As kaitiaki of our wai Māori in Te Tai Tokerau, we are taking proactive measures to protect our lakes and rivers from the spread of the invasive golden clam discovered at Lake Karāpiro.

All waka, gear, and paddlers returning home from Waka Ama Sprint Nationals — including any waka that were washed at Lake Karāpiro as part of golden clam biosecurity procedures — are required to observe an immediate 10-day stand-down period from entering any freshwater bodies in Te Tai Tokerau.

This applies to all lakes and rivers, with particular priority for:
• Lake Ngātu
• Lake Manuwai
• Kai Iwi Lakes
• Any other freshwater taonga within Te Tai Tokerau

Golden clam can survive in tiny water pockets within waka, equipment, clothing, or on the body for up to 10 days. Standing down from using our freshwater spaces is a responsible, collective act of kaitiakitanga to safeguard our wai, our taiao, and the generations who depend on them.
