Size-wise⦠definitely not what I was hoping for š¤£
But Iām more than happy because I finally had the chance to test my own handmade lure outside Indonesian waters, and once again, it proved itself.
For this entire trip, I used just one lure: the Hooked Bali Popper 20cm / 95g in white.
The result:
š£ 3 Yellow fin tuna
š£ 2 GTs
Not a bad score for a single lure.
If thereās one thing Iāve learned, itās that confidence in your lure matters just as much as the lure itself.
The Hooked Bali Popper is available in 3 sizes: 16cm, 18cm, and 20cmāall weighing 95g.
Built by anglers, tested on the water, and proven where it matters most šš¤

Blue-spotted Coral Grouper (Cephalopholis miniata)
One of the most common grouper species found in the South China Sea. They are typically found around reefs at depths of 40ā100 meters.
When they move onto shallower reef structures, theyāre surprisingly accessible with a PE-1 light jigging setup paired with 40ā60 g jigs. The strike is always fun and makes every hookup memorable.
In Bali, catching one of this size has become increasingly rare. Hopefully, healthy fisheries management will keep these incredible fish around for future generations.
How about in your local waters? Are groupers of this size still common where you fish? Let me know in the comments! š

You might not agree with me, and thatās totally fine.
But Iām one of those anglers who doesnāt believe lure color makes much difference when targeting GT.
If thereās a hungry GT waiting below, itāll smash whatever lands in its strike zone. It doesnāt care if your lure is pink, blue, black, or even has no paint at all š
Some anglers love detailed patterns and flashy finishes, and thereās absolutely nothing wrong with that. But to me, lure color is all about personal preference.
As someone who also makes my own poppers, I prefer keeping things simpleāsolid colors with just a touch of glitter to give them a little character.
What matters most isnāt the color.
Itās confidence.
Whatever lure you choose, it should give you complete confidence every time you cast it. Because confident anglers make better casts, work their lures better, and stay focused until that explosive surface strike finally happens.
At the end of the day, I think itās all about mindset!
Whatās your opinion? Does lure color really matter, or is confidence the real secret? šāļø

What A Dayš„
Not every tripāespecially during the off seasonāends with epic catches. Sometimes the weather limits your options, the fish donāt cooperate, and you just have to make the best of the conditions.
But every now and then⦠luck decides to show up!
Our angler from Singapore only had the chance to fish one single spot because of the weather. Yet that one spot delivered an unforgettable day
ā
GT on popping
ā
GT on jigging
ā
Dogtooth tuna on jigging
ā
Several coral trout on micro jigging
Sometimes, all you need is one spot⦠and a little bit of luck šš¤š„
