Last home game of the season for the Firhouse Carmel u13.9 boys team against a very strong Clontarf FC but what a win, what a performance, what a match. A big crowd in attendance as the boys aimed to finish the home campaign with a win against a team sitting 3rd in the league and have only lost 5 games all season. The Firhouse boys were ready for it, starting the 4-4-2 line up was Leszek in goals, Aaron at right back, Heggars at left back and 2 centre backs of DJ and Ronan, out on the right of midfield Lucas Graham, centre midfield duo of Cian and Seán, left wing was Harry, upfront was Olek and Cillian, our impact players were, Andray, Jamie and Melvin. The Firhouse boys were fired up and ready to go, they edged the first quarter and took the lead through Olek who has been a revelation up front making runs, heading blocking and scoring. The goal was made look simple after some hard work down the right side between Lucas G and Cian, the ball fell to Olek, spun and finished into the far corner. DJ at the back played like Beckenbaur at times, grabbed the game by the scruff of its neck, powered forward, rides a few tackles before having a shot from the edge of the box that just went wide. Cian had a shot that was well saved by their goalkeeper. Leszek once again was in top form with a number of excellent saves. Back 4 had been rock solid for the first 29 minutes, a corner for Firhouse is cleared, a scramble to get back and stop a goal, they do but the ball lands outside the box and a long range shot finds the back of the net, 1-1 at half time. More changes after the break as the Firhouse boys can smell victory, great running down the left by Harry, 2 good chances for Lucas go over the bar, Seán and Cian are bossing midfield, but time was still our friend. The desire to win and battle for every ball was great to see from every player. Approaching the last 5 minutes and still Firhouse pushed forward, the deflected shot from Clontarf that hit the crossbar a minor blemish. Deep into the Clontarf penalty box and shouts go up for hand ball, play the whistle, Cian did and lashed the ball into the back of the net. A 2-1 win and one of their best performances so far 💪
