Sharing news, information and events from the C&V Sector in Longford. How does Co. Longford Community & Voluntary Forum work?
The purpose of the County Longford Community and Voluntary Forum is to facilitate the representation of and participation by community and voluntary groups in matters relating to both Longford County Development Board and Longford County Council. It is also open to other constituent bodies of the Board to work through the Forum in matters relating to their own particular areas of responsibility or interest.
Annually, all of the Community and Voluntary organisations in the County affiliated to the CLCVF are invited to our AGM. Here each affiliated group can nominate one of their own group members to go forward for election to become CLCVF Steering Group members. Those elected on the night will fill one of 38 positions on the Forum’s Steering Group where they will then attend monthly Forum meetings representing the interests of the community and voluntary groups in their Electoral Area or a county wide basis if they represent a specific issue. A number of the Forum’s Steering Group members then may go on to represent the interests of the Community and Voluntary sector on committees who make policy decisions in relation to water, housing, childcare to name (see inside for details these groups). Some of the benefits of being
involved include:
• Representation i.e. on bodies such as Social Inclusion Measures Working Group, Co. Childcare Committee, Longford Community Resources Ltd. etc.
• Local Government Planning on the County Development Board, Strategic Policy Committees etc.
• Communications The forum’s monthly Ebulletin which includes local news and information on events, training and funding Information on funding etc.
• Training
• Discounted Insurance for Community and Voluntary Groups
• Networking and Information Exchange with other Community & Voluntary groups within the County
• Consultation on matters affecting the Community & Voluntary Sector in the County.
