Amazons beat Greystones 15-14 in nail-biting match
Arklow Women Rock Greystones!!
Arklow Amazons take the win in Greystones 15-14
Arklow Amazons travelled to Greystones for their second Leinster League match of the season on Sunday 24th October. With both teams eager for their first league win of the season it was going to be a tough battle from both sides. Arklow started strong, and through solid kicking and quick line speed and pressure, Greystones found themselves on their own try line. Under pressure, Greystones cleared their own line with a kick but on the counter attack the Amazons managed to put the first score on the board with a try in the corner.
Arklow managed to retain possession from the restart, and strong phases of attack led to a scrum on the 5m line. From there Arklow quickly got their second score of the day, leading 10-0.
Arklow’s defence had been holding Greystones at bay, but a number of penalties led to the home side gaining ground, and a final line break inside the 22 led to their first score of the day, with a successful conversion leaving the half time score at 10-7 to the away team.
This score remained unchanged for the next 20 minutes, with both teams working effectively in defence. Into the last 20 minutes of the game, Arklow’s penalty count again let the home side gain ground, leading to a score under the posts to leave the score 14-10 to the home side.
With only 5 minutes left in the game, Arklow needed to pull something out of the bag to get a final score. Showing solid discipline and determination, Arklow worked through the phases to gain ground. Greystones couldn’t match the attack and gave away penalties, allowing Arklow to work up the pitch and score in the corner. Final score was Arklow 15 Greystones 14. A well fought battle from both sides in a game that could have gone either way, Arklow were delighted to come away with the win

A gorgeous picture of two of our players who brought along their number 1 fans to watch them play. Just 3 of the 6 babies born to Amazon players in 2021 and most of the mammies have been back out training and playing this season 💪🏼

With covid restrictions putting a stop to the first league match of the season, the Amazons played a little friendly against Wexford instead. It was a great way for the new girls to get a feel for a match without the pressure of points and a refresher for all the seasoned players. Despite the dire weather conditions everyone had a bit of fun and the ladies were excited to get back at the game after such a long break
