Because the best weekends don't always start with a lie in.

Some people spend their Saturday mornings tucked up in a warm bed, or maybe even enjoying a leisurely coffee… ☕🛌

And then there’s us… voluntarily getting out of bed to paddle a dragonboat through freezing fog! 🥶🤣

Visibility? Questionable. 👀

Temperature? Baltic! ❄️

Sanity? Still under investigation! 🤪

But sure, who needs sunshine when you’ve got great company, plenty of laughs and a crew mad enough to think this is a perfectly normal way to spend a Saturday morning! ❤️

Would we do it all again? ABSOLUTELY! 💪❤️

On Sunday's we eat cake 🍰 (well it is becoming a running theme 😂)

But we would like to wish a Happy Birthday to one of our OG members Mairéad.

You’ve helped build more than just a club — you’ve helped create friendships, memories, laughter and a wonderful club we have today.

Stuffing ourselves with birthday cake wasn't our only land activity last weekend.

We also took some time on Sunday to go through water safety procedures.

We practice hard, but we practice smart. Water safety is non-negotiable every single time we push off the bank.

A few of our crew were brave enough to take a splash and put their buoyancy aids to the test!!

And don't forget before it's PADDLES UP you make sure you know exactly who your buddy is.

Birthday celebrations this weekend for Carlow Dragon Boat Club

13 years of slaying on the water. 🐉

We've officially reached the hormonal teenage dragon phase. 😝

Cheers to 13 amazing years of our club building community, connection and creating memories together. 🎉🎂

🐉 WHAT A WEEKEND FOR CARLOW! 🐉

A huge well done to all four of our teams who took part in the Dragon Boat Speed Fest at the weekend. We had a fantastic day of racing, and Carlow Dragon Boat Club was very proudly represented by four teams; Carlow Dragons Women’s team, Carlow Crusaders Open team, Carlow Juniors and Carlow Cubs. 💚

We were delighted with the results across the day:

🥇 Carlow Dragons – Women’s
1st place in both the 200m and 100m races

🐉 Carlow Crusaders – Open
5th place in both the 200m and 100m races

🌟 Carlow Cubs & Carlow Juniors
Our two junior crews got the chance to race against each other, with the Cubs taking 1st place in both races and the Juniors finishing 2nd. It was fantastic to see so many of our young paddlers out on the water racing and representing Carlow.

A special thank you to some of the Athy juniors who joined our junior crew for the day and helped make it such an enjoyable event. And also to Bev from Donegal Dragons for giving us a helping hand and helming one of the junior crews.

Most importantly, it was a great weekend for the whole club, four teams, fantastic racing, plenty of support and a great atmosphere both on and off the water.

Well done to everyone who played their part and our thanks to the Irish Dragon Boat Association for organising another fantastic event. 💚🐉
