Bennekerry/Tinryland Draughts Club

Three of our club members teamed up this weekend with Irish Grandmaster Shane McCosker to represent Ireland in the 4th annual NDCL championship in the beautiful valley of Aosta, Italy.
Six rounds of intense and top-quality competition were played, with equal numbers of matches in each of the home-countries specialist draughts variant: English-style, Italian, Frysk and Czech.
Shane had a very impressive final tally of four wins plus two draws which earned him a top player accolade 🏆🎉
More beautiful friendships were cemented, as well as skills fine-tuned. Huge appreciation to host club Asd Dama Aosta for an amazing tournament and huge congratulations to Mairéad, Patricia, Páidí and Shane 👏🙌🇮🇪🇮🇹🇳🇱🇨🇿

Our U16s are Leinster Champions once again after a superb display in Longford on Saturday🏆🎉.
A valiant effort put in by our U12 team…. but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough this time. No shame in this defeat as most are U12 again next year. In the meantime plenty more draughts to be played 🙌.

Another wonderful weekend spent at the Fryslân Open Championship 2026 in Franeker, Friesland 🇳🇱.
More great memories made, experience gained and amazing fun had with our Friesian, Dutch, Italian and Czech friends 🙌🤩.

Fantastic results in Franeker, Netherlands as our draughts club came in 2nd place thanks to superb playing by Darcy and Sara 🎉🎉.
Today was the juvenile competition of the Fryslân Open 2026 in the Frysk draughts variant.
These girls have absolutely mastered this variant in a very short space of time, after learning it only last summer! Brilliant work girls ⚫️⚪️🎊🙌

🎉We had two winners in this weekend’s Kildare Open Championship held in the Town House Hotel in Naas.
Mairéad was 1st in the Intermediate Section and Eddie was 2nd in the same category.
Well done guys ⚫️🏆⚪️🙌.
Mairéad will play in the Senior category in the next Open competition.

Congratulations again to last year’s U16 team 🎉🙌

🎉Congratulations to our U16 draughts team representatives Patrick, Páidí and Danny, and coach Mairéad. The team was celebrated this afternoon with all the other National gold medal winners at the Carlow County Council office.
They received certificates of achievement from Cathaoirleach Ken Murnane in recognition of their hard work, dedication and practice which earned them national titles last July 🤩👏.

💕Last year’s U16 All-Ireland Draughts Champions will be honoured tomorrow, Monday, 12th January at a special awards ceremony in the County Council Chamber at 4.30 p.m with a special presentation by Mayor Paul Doogue.
