West Cork Riding Club

Proud to represent West Cork Riding Club today at the Association of Irish Riding Clubs National Hunter Trial Championships at Nuenna Farm Equestrian Centre
Oona and Atlas joined me and Skye to ride in the RC80 Pairs class. We were conscious that Atlas likes speed so kept it slow and easy to avoid speed time penalties and get as close as we could to optimum time...and we ended up getting time penalties for going too slow! Plus an unlucky penalty for what I assume was Skye's hesitation at the drop into the water, so all penalties combined we came 20th out of 26. But a really fun experience to ride as a pair, an uplifting encouraging dynamic between the two horses which brought the best out in both.
In the individual Championships Atlas and Oona came 7th out of 45 competitors - well done! - and Skye and me got 4th place!!! - this time penalties for going too fast! But Skye made me proud, she is still struggling with confidence, I could see she was doing her best to overcome her insecurity of jumping the course without best buddy Atlas, and she did a clear round. I know she has so much more to give in terms of physical ability, but it is just taking her a long time to progress with her emotional and mental resilience. No use rushing, we'll happily jump away at our level until she finds it boring and wants to offer more....

Thanks to all organisers and volunteers and staff at Nuenna Farm for a great day out! It was worth the 4am start....
