Congratulations to the premier team at home today on grasping victory from the jaws of defeat in a hard fought game against Mungret Regional from Limerick in the 5th round of the FAI junior cup. In a game between two evenly matched teams chances were scarce throughout. Having said that, Mungret must thank their goalkeeper for keeping them in the game on two seperate occasions throughout the game when he made brilliant saves from two well struck penalties. As well as those saves Coachford also had the ball in the net from a corner but it was flagged offside by the linesman. The first half finished 0-0 and as the game was coming to a close it looked like we were heading for extra time when Mungret struck with a well taken goal more or less on full time, however from the centre off Coachford launched a long ball forward down the middle which was knocked on in the air and Bob popped up to send the ball to the net to level the game and the delight of the large home crowd present. Extra time created no clear cut chances as Mungret appeared to sit deep and defend confident that they would come through in a penalty shootout. With just 2 minutes left a long ball forward to Luke was won by him in the one on one situation and having turned the defender he coolly slotted to the net underneath the advancing keeper to put us in the lead for the first time. With Mungret running out of time and needing to score they piled on the pressure but we held firm to hold out for a great win against a very good Mungret Regional side. Onwards to the round of 16 for us which will be played in the middle of June, opposition unknown yet. Thank you to all the supporters who showed up for the lads today! πŸ’šβš½οΈπŸ‘πŸ»
