U14's V Macroom Founders Cup

Saturday 16th May saw Churchvilla make the long journey to Macroom for what turned out to be a thrilling U14 Founders Cup encounter.

Churchvilla started the game brightly, controlling possession well in midfield with excellent link-up play from Cillian, Filip, and Alex. The trio showed great composure on the ball and distributed it effectively to wingers Stash and Michael, who constantly looked dangerous and were never afraid to take on their defenders.

Despite Churchvilla’s strong start, the first real chance fell to Macroom. Following a corner kick, the ball bounced around the box with a slice of luck before eventually finding its way into the back of the net. It was a scrappy goal to concede after an otherwise solid first-half performance, and Macroom went into the break leading 1-0.

The second half proved to be a turning point for our lads, who raised the intensity and began putting Macroom under serious pressure. Reuben, Stash, and Iwo worked tirelessly to close down the opposition and drive the team forward.

Churchvilla’s equaliser came after a brilliant attacking move. Cillian burst through the Macroom defence and, with only the goalkeeper left to beat, was brought down in the penalty area by the last defender. Cillian stepped up himself and calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom corner to deservedly bring the sides level.

From that moment on, Churchvilla dominated possession and played some excellent football. Our back four of Thomas, Ben, James, and Tom were outstanding, keeping Macroom largely quiet and dealing confidently with any attacks that came their way.

With just two minutes remaining in normal time, Churchvilla came agonisingly close to taking the lead when Stash looked certain to score, only to be denied by a fantastic save from the Macroom goalkeeper. Macroom then broke quickly on the counterattack and were awarded what looked to be a very soft penalty in the dying moments. Archie stood tall in goal, making himself big and putting the striker under pressure, with the resulting effort narrowly missing the target.

With nothing separating the teams at full time, the match went into extra time.

Extra time was dominated by Churchvilla, with every player in the squad contributing and continuing to pile the pressure on Macroom. The winning moment finally arrived with only a few minutes remaining. Stash produced a glorious backheel to send Cillian through one-on-one with the keeper, and once again he finished with incredible composure, calmly finding the corner to give Churchvilla the lead.

Macroom pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but our defence stood firm, with Archie commanding from the back and helping the team see the game out.

It was a fantastic performance from the entire squad, with every player making a valuable contribution in a hard-fought and deserved victory👏🏻👏🏻⚽️

Final Score: Macroom 1-2 Churchvilla AET

U12's Churchvilla V Carrigaline

Our u12D9 team were in action again -this time away to Carrigaline. It was 1-0 to Carrigaline in the reverse fixture earlier in the season so a tight battle was expected & so it panned out.
Despite playing against a stiff wind -our lads played some nice measured football & Joe tested their goalie early on. Nice build up play from Charlie (captain for the day) released the flying Billy down the right. His great cross was met sweetly on the volley by Dylan to put us up 1-0.
The rest of the half was a tight affair with Ruairi outstanding in goals. In the second half we played the breeze advantage cleverly allowing the relentless Dylan in behind where the space was. He scored 2 on the break either side of a Carrigaline goal. The lads battled to the end and kept Carrigaline at bay. A great 3-1 win.! 💪🏻⚽️🔥
