Thank you to all who came by, chatted, and played chess in Scotch Hall Shopping Centre last Saturday. We didn't think we could top our record turnout the previous week but we did! 14 boards fully occupied for most of the day!

We hope to do it again next year!

If you're interested in more chess, we hope to see you regularly in the club on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 11 p.m., starting on Tuesday, 1st September at the ABCD Bridge Centre, Fair Green, Drogheda.

Our Junior Club will return from 18:30 – 19:30pm., starting on Tuesday, 29th September. Please contact about joining.

The Drogheda Chess Club invites all to attend our annual chess promotional events running in Scotch Hall Shopping Centre this Saturday, August 22nd and 29th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It's a great opportunity to come along, play some chess, and chat with members, especially if you're interested in joining!

Last year, we had fantastic interest. We hope to have the same this year!

Congratulations to FM Adam Collins, who recently became the 105th Irish Champion. Adam was undefeated in the main event with 7/9 but faced a nail-biting playoff with a resurgent and formidable FM Stephen Jessel.

A two-game rapid match between Collins and Jessel was played for the title, with each side winning with black. The tiebreaker then proceeded to a two-game blitz match. Again each side scored a win, this time with white. For the first time in the history of the Irish Championship, the tiebreaker went to Armageddon. This sudden death blitz game was won by Collins, and with it the well-deserved title.

Once again the Irish Championship is won by the young, with Collins being just 21 years old!

Well done to everyone who took part in the 35th Drogheda Chess Congress!

Congratulations to IM Tarun Kanyamarala and CM Jacob Flynn who jointly won the Thomson Masters as well as every other winner across all sections.

Congratulations to the Drogheda Dragons, who recently won the Mick Germaine Cup!

The Mick Germaine Cup is an annual 4-junior-player team competition run by the Leinster Chess Union. 16 teams took part, totalling over 60 players.

Well done also to our second team, the Drogheda Dungeons, who came a respectable 8th.

A selection of images from the Drogheda Super Rapid 2K25 Klimax held recently over Christmas from the 27th to the 28th of December. A great turnout and a great event!

Congratulations to defending champion FM Oleg Artemenko, who once again finished 1st with a incredible score of 13.5/15, undefeated and with a round to spare.

IM Tarun Kanyamarala was 2nd on 12 points with FM Jason Liu 3rd. IM David Fitzsimons came 4th and FM Kavin Venkatesan was 5th. WGM Trisha Kanyamarala took the Best Women’s prize.
