I hear it a lot from my clients “My scale weight hasn’t changed I haven’t progressed” Well actually yes you have progressed. Progression isn’t solely based on what the scale says every morning. Yes, the scales is an indicator however it is not the be all and end all of your journey. You can still see improvements in your body composition even with little to no scale weight change. Now progressions physically is not the only aspect we can look. Mental progression is equally as important as physical progression. If you felt like you managed your stress this week better than you did last week that’s progression.
So next time you stand on the scales do not let it determine whether you have made progress or not.

"Consistency is key" you hear it all the time in the fitness industry. As cliche as it is, there is not a truer saying. Consistency is the foundation of achieving any goal you want. When I see clients not be as consistent as I know they can be I ask them one simple question "How badly do you want it?" How badly they want it will determine how accurate they will be. Whether that is sticking to the calories I give them, or something as small as getting the check in on time. All of this contributes to their consistency. Once all of this is in play that is when they really start to see not only the physical changes but also the mental change. Having said that life does continue around us and things can happen. One thing I heard one day stuck with me "One hot day does not make it summer" when things happen, all we need to do is regroup and hit the ground running again. So I'll ask it again "How badly do you want it?"

What is your why?
This is a question I always ask my clients before I work with them. I want to find why have they come to me. For me, I was tired of being in and out of lockdowns and my physique was taking a toll. So I decided to stay consistent and take control of my life again. I noticed my brain was cloudy and I was not productive one bit. With consistency and hard work I was able to lose 10KG in 11 weeks. My clients will say the same when I gave them a routine and a foundation they felt so much better than before. Once you know "Why" things become a lot clearer. Do you have your why? I have been working with Yorick for some months now. He came to me as he wanted to change his lifestyle become healthier and more active. We began our journey together really well. Christmas came along and I said "You can have a diet break" because everyone should enjoy Christmas. We both noticed that Yorick had gained a few kilos and was not getting back on track as fast as we hoped. We both sat down, discussed what was not working. We found the issues, and we slowly brought him back up to speed. That is the joy of coaching, the ability to work with you client to discover what the real issues are and work with them towards solving them. My goal as a trainer is to get the best out of you and achieve the physique and mindset you have always wanted. Yorick is not at the end of his journey, him and I both know there’s so much more he’s capable of, but this does show what hard work and consistency will get you.
