FRESHERS’ TRIP 2025 & CL1 CERTIFIED
We packed our sleeping bags and headed to the Banner county once again for an underground adventure, where 15 new club members ventured into Polldubh (some of them twice!) for their first time. We hit up Poll na gCroí and Faunarooska, and four of our members got qualified as CL1s! We’d like to thank Terry, Stan and Artur of the SUI’s training team for making it all possible and look forward to future endeavours with them. Keep your eyes peeled for our next update on what we’ve been up to over the break.

THE RETURN TO KILTY FOR THE ISCF
We'd like to thank UCDCPC for hosting the Irish student caving forum at Kiltyclogher Holiday Centre this year, and what a forum it was! They made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived until the last DCU students left. It was an incredible opportunity to showcase our skills, be that excessive drinking, emergency first response, or caving. Ropes were rigged, Pigeon was Potted (again), and we somehow survived the washout weekend that saw only the bravest cavers descend through some of the highest water levels I've seen in Fermanagh. Massive thanks to for having us.

DCU Caving Club 30th Anniversary! Post 1/2
We celebrated 30 years of caving at the Rose Room in the Clarence last Saturday. Great craic was had all round, with an astonishing number of alumni coming back to join in the celebrations. Potentially the fanciest venue that hosted a caving event so far, the food was the best I've eaten since instant noodles in Shannon cave. Particular thanks to those who travelled long distances to make it, it was great to see you all there. Here's to another 30 years!

DCUCC KILTY REFRESHER TRIP 28-30th MARCH
What a weekend. We managed to get some people underground for the first time in their lives which was no mean feat, did some more advanced caving (even a through trip in wet conditions), and introduced half the club to the Kilty "local" all in the space of 3 days! From the moment we set off from Dublin at 9 - wait 10 - wait 11AM , we overcame the challenges of the Leitrim backroads to successfully navigate the treacherous underground of the Cuilcagh mountain. Mud was the keyword for our Sunday group, with many people experiencing the joys of John Thomas for the first time. We were serenaded by two musicians who, despite some people's best attempts, only took trad (and Chapel Roan) requests. The saxophone may never see another caving trip, but the memories will survive. Stay tuned for our next post (hint… FORUM)

Committee Post Vol.2

First up is me, enough said. Drop me a DM for my life story.

Next we have Abinu, our fearless, death-defying Sri Lankan representative of DCUCC (and ordinary member). Let no elephant nor wild monkey stand in this man's path to a mechatronic engineering degree. With a savage trim and an even more savage thirst to lookmax, caves beware - Abinu will stop at nothing to master the ropes and explore below. 🗿🗿🗿.

Next up we have Mr T, our designated craic officer and part-time secretary. The fresh prince of Belmaine looks even fresher in an oversuit. Born to cave and forced to do Business, this master salesman could sell mud to Stan. He has a passion for all things dark and underground, and will stop at nothing to explore the darkest depths nationwide.

As an EFR herself, Ms McSherry the younger has a bright and upward career ahead… or should I say dark and downward? One of our most proficient cavers, she has rigged caves and coached Freshers for the past 2 years. Our soon-to-be EMT has an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Ambo, and is never one to back away from a challenge. Hundred-metre ropes beware, Niamh will stop at nothing to ensure the safety of DCUCC.

Our keeper of the keys, or rather bank cards, Ciara is one of our newer caving members. Craic is never off the agenda when she is on a trip. Having mastered her SRT skills in training, she has caved in Fermanagh, Clare and Cork. She is keen to descend the deepest caves in the country, and has a desire to discover the underworld.

A flexible computer science student with no sense of smell, our resident webmaster is a caver in the streets and a programmer in the sheets. The chillest guy in DCUCC, he is no stranger to mud and tight crawls. With underground supremacy, he has continually proven himself to be one of the most nimble members, be that on a rope or horizontally.
