We’re looking forward to having our pals from Ulster krakens sac coming down to fish with us on Donabate this Saturday. Hopefully the smoothies & bass get the memo that there’s some VIP’s in attendance!
Conditions (Mondays forecast) & tides look perfect to give us a decent nights fishing 💪

Leinster shore Mini League 2026 updated

Super competition run by Howth SAC, fantastic to see more clubs involved in running the Leinster League 👏👏👏
A fine breezy afternoon greeted Southshore’s finest in the Carpark in Arklow for a competition on the jewel in the East Coast Match Circuit - Arklow South Beach. On what should have been desperate conditions for shore angling (very small tides and bright sunshine), Arklow turned up the goods as usual.
From first cast, fish were in evidence in doubles & trebles all along the stretch. Mainly whiting to start but a few flats & dogs would normally show aswell!
In Zone A Thomas Keogh & Jim O’Brien were duking it out, with Jim picking off multiple whiting and Thomas finding more higher scoring dogs. Dave Cottell & Rob Moore fished hard to keep the pressure on both the lads as they all progressed well into double figures of fish.
In Zone B, there was an early charge from Eamonn Bermingham who had located the dogs at distance and had half a dozen with the first couple of hours of the match. Not to be overshadowed and somewhat inevitability, Ciaran Fogarty located the dogs aswell and a single or double was regularly seen skimming in onto the beach. Alby Allan on a fancied end peg was struggling to keep pace but located a few double dogs late on to keep some pressure on the lads.
A fascinating subplot was also emerging as Gordy Hardman on the Golden Peg (which has now amassed close on a thousand Euro) had foregone typical whiting & dogfish tactics to use worm baits to target bass & flounders to see if he could take a pool out and a big fat slice of the dosh!!!
You couldn’t write it, but with precious few flats coming to shore, Gordy landed a 21cm dab which was in pole position. Gordy and Ian Daly have a longstanding shared winnings agreement, and after a couple of hours Ian was as excited as a kid on Christmas Eve!
Gordy, ever the Good Samaritan was giving Tony Kelly a lift to the match and unbeknownst (or was it??) to Tony, Gordy had a fortune in his grasp, when in the last knockings, Tony landed a cracking 30cm Flounder that sent the lads holiday plans to Kerry into a tailspin. Several anglers, although not 100% confirmed, saw a man similar to Tony trudging along the N11 back to Dublin after the match with Fishing gear in tow!
Back to the match proper and Thomas Kept the pressure on to win Zone A with 15 fish, from Jim O’Brien also with 15 fish and Dave Cottell in third on 11.
In Zone B, Ciaran managed enough dogs to get up comfortably for the Zone & overall win (21 fish), his consistency, tactical acumen & skill are a joy to behold in addition to assisting and giving tips to any angler who asks, well done that man! Alby Allan (18 fish) had a strong last 90 mins with a few double dogs to just pip Eamonn (19 fish) for second place.
Finally the pools went to Dave Cottell with a 26cm Whiting & Tony Kelly with that fiscally challenging 30cm Flounder!

A stunning still evening on springtime favourite Enereilly set the scene for the second leg of the Southshore 2026 Master Angler. Fishing from 7 - midnight, the temperature was always going to drop after dark but anglers were hopeful there would be much bucket walking to keep them warm!
Thanks to Jarek P who pegged the beach, albeit shook things up a bit by going right to left as opposed to left to right!! This worked out unfortunate for some as Paul Mason was now on peg 1 (in the corner) and Paul Doyle had a jammy end peg (over the dunes) in what can only be described as the best peg in Wicklow!
The rising tide put a nice northerly run on the sea and conditions looked good early on. A few pin whiting showed up early on but it wasn’t long before a few dogs started to put in an appearance, with Ian Daly, Thomas Keogh, Anto Scanlon & Paul Doyle (on the best peg in Leinster) scoring hefty 50 pointers with regularity.
A couple of hours in it became clear that Chris Scanlon in Zone A was doing really well with 17 fish while there was probably not another angler into double figures as yet. There was a good ding d**g battle in Zone B, with Eamonn Bermingham, Gordy Hardman, Alby Allan & Doyler (on the best peg in Ireland if not Europe) catching plenty of Dogs to shuffle up and down in the standings as the match progressed!
The last 90 mins slowed in Zone A with Chris’s catch rate slowing albeit he had enough in the bag to take out the zone with 23 fish. Thomas Keogh fished a solid match catching more than 10 dogs to finish second in the zone with young Niall Carabini taking third in the zone from a difficult area with 17 fish.
In Zone A, the result was in doubt right until the final cast, when Alby Allan landed a double dog to take out the zone & overall (20 fish with 17 Dogs) just pipping Doyler who had a blank final cast ending on 22 fish. Gordy made up the frame with a solid 14 fish bag with plenty of dogs in it.
In the pools - Chris Scanlon took out the flat with a rare 26cm dab and the round went to Niall Carabini with a 25cm whiting. The golden peg remains intact with what must be a small fortune in it, not for the want of trying either as Anto Scanlon used large pulley baits for spurs and huss for much of the match to try hit the jackpot! Very enjoyable evening and good fishing for the time of year.
Celebrating my 14th year on Facebook. Thank you for your continuing support. I could never have made it without you. 🙏🤗🎉

Condolences to the family & friends of Southshore Member Jack O’Connor who passed away this week.
Jack would often arrive to his peg on the venues around Morriscastle in his trusty tractor putting even the most modern of tackle trolleys to shame! RIP Jack
