How strong is Fussy Filler after 30 days?
Strong enough that we decided to do something a little different.
This is a lump of Two Fussy Blokes Fussy Filler that was left to cure for 30 days.
We placed a plank over it and drove a car wheel straight across.
No hidden steel.
No tricks.
Just a lump of cured filler taking the load underneath.
Now, we’re not suggesting you start building bridges out of filler, but it’s a pretty good demonstration of how tough this stuff becomes once it’s fully cured.
We are fussy. That’s how we roll.
This old downpipe had a few people guessing, but the rust gave it away straight away — cast iron.
Before doing any work on old gutters and downpipes, make sure you know exactly what you’re dealing with. Some older properties can have lead or asbestos cement rainwater goods, and you don’t want to be creating dust from either of those. We’ve put together a simple identification guide at the end of the reel to help.
Once we confirmed it was cast iron, all the loose rust was scraped and sanded back.
Our system on the metal section was:
✔ Owatrol Oil directly onto the rusted areas.
✔ Fleetwood Bloxx-It Black mixed with Owatrol Oil as the undercoat.
✔ Tikkurila Miranol High Gloss mixed with Owatrol Oil for the finish coat.
applied with 10mm microfibre roller and Aqua Glider Brush
The bottom section is being painted the same colour as the masonry, so we treated that area slightly differently.
We still applied Owatrol Oil to stabilise and protect the metal, but we didn’t add Owatrol into the Bloxx-It White. We’ve found that when a water-based masonry paint is going over it, adding oil into the primer can sometimes cause issues with the water-based system.
So for the lower section it was:
✔ Owatrol Oil.
✔ Bloxx-It White.
✔ Two coats of masonry paint.
A lot of people automatically paint downpipes black, but on a standard pipe like this we prefer to lose it into the wall colour. It looks cleaner, less fussy and draws your eye to the house rather than the pipework.
The important part is the preparation. Get that right and this shouldn’t need attention again for many years.
Check out the guide at the end of the reel and see if you can identify what’s on your own house.

Dulux Heritage Rich Teal going on here with the Two Fussy Blokes 5mm Microfibre.
Lovely finish, plenty of control, and lays the paint off beautifully when you’re looking for that extra bit of finesse.
The 5mm isn’t always the quickest roller in the van, but when finish is the priority, it’s hard to beat.
Two Fussy Blokes tune providing the soundtrack, of course.

Our New Two Fussy Blokes adjustable frame in action here with the Semi-Smooth Plus sleeve 15mm pile.
Before I start rolling, I always rinse and spin the sleeve out. Wakes the fibres up and helps the capillary action pull the paint right into the core of the roller instead of it just sitting on the outside. Makes a serious difference loading up.
Using Johnstone’s Obliterating Matt here with a tiny drop of water in it the way I like it myself.
You can actually see the roller drinking the paint in from the tray, and once it hits the wall… serious coverage.
For a light washable matt, I genuinely didn’t expect it to cover this well. Most paints in this range don’t usually give you that coverage and finish together.
Lovely smooth layoff, the frame feels deadly in the hand, and the sleeve is carrying loads of paint without flinging it everywhere.
Hard faulting that setup to be fair.
This is the new Johnstone’s Obliterating Matt… and honestly, I was seriously impressed with it.
I added literally a drop of water into it — just my own way of getting it flowing how I like — but to be fair, if you used it straight from the tub it nearly covers in one coat.
I was doing two coats anyway because that’s just how I work, but the coverage and finish on it was lovely. Real smooth paint to use.
And the brush there is the 2.5” Two Fussy Blokes Aqua Glider I’m using in the video. Unreal brush for this sort of work — holds loads of paint, glides lovely, and just makes the whole thing feel effortless.”
