1. What type of bikes do we use? Yes.
Throughout the year UCD Sport & Fitness hosts Triathlons for its members and students. The Triathlon is suitable for all levels from complete beginners to advanced. Each Triathlon normally consists of a 500m Swim in UCD's 50m Olympic Swimming pool, a 20km cycle in UCD's Spinning Studio and finally a 5km outdoor run. The Triathlons are designed not only to challenge yourself but to have some fun an
d meet other members and students. If you are interested in registering for our next triathlon keep an eye on our Triathlon page for upcoming events. All participants will use the spin bikes located in the spin studio.
2. How do you track distance on the spin bikes? The spin bikes have a computer screen to measure
distance, as well as rpm, time etc
3. What is the resistance like on the spin bike? Each participant will follow resistance guidelines given on the day (different gears for male & female) We recommend that each participant sets their pace at a level that is safe and comfortable based on their cycle experience.
4. How do I know how to set myself up on the spin bikes? There will be staff members there on the day to help you get set up, or alternatively ask a member of staff on the gym floor to show you how to set up the next time you are in the gym.
5. How do you count laps in the pool? We measure your swim distance in lengths, not laps. Each time you
touch the wall counts as one length. Staff will be at each lane
counting for you — all you have to do is swim!
6. Do I have to swim a certain stroke? No, you can swim any stroke you like, including dog paddle, side
stroke, elementary backstroke, etc. Whatever keeps you moving in the
water.
7. What if I need a break during the swim? You may rest on the walls, hold onto the lane line or stand on the
bottom of the pool to rest. You may stop and rest for as long as you
like, but try not to block those behind you and keep in mind the clock is ticking!
8. Do I have to wear a swim cap? All participants are asked to wear a swim cap.
9. Can I wear a life jacket or use a snorkel during the swim? No. We do not allow any flotation devices or snorkels/fins to be used

10. Will there be a place to change out of my swimsuit before the bike? The ‘Changing Village’ (located to the right of reception) will serve as your transition area. Changing rooms and lockers will be reserved for TRYathlon participants. You will have 10 minutes to change out of your suit, into your biking and running gear. This goes by much faster than you think, so keep moving. This transition time is not recorded with your time. You should bring your running stuff with you to the spin studio as you will not have time to go back to the Changing Village after the cycle event.
11. Where is the run? The run is located outside the front of UCD Sport & Fitness where the pitches are located. The run will consist of 3 consecutive laps around the pitches.
12. What if the weather is bad? Its Ireland! The chances of the weather being bad is high. However the run will take place come hail, wind or snow so make sure to keep warm.
