The 2026 PGA Show has just wrapped up in Orlando, and The Island Golf Club was proudly represented on the global stage! 🌊⛳

Our General Manager, John Kelly, flew the flag for the club by attending as part of the Golf in Ireland stand – the go-to spot for showcasing Ireland's incredible golf offerings to industry pros, buyers, and media worldwide.

Over three action-packed days, John connected with key partners, checked out the newest innovations in equipment, technology, and golf travel, and shared what makes our championship links so special: that timeless Irish seaside challenge with the sea on three sides, right here in Donabate.

A huge thank you to John for representing The Island so brilliantly, and to Tourism Ireland and the entire Golf in Ireland team for putting on such a strong presence. We're heading home full of inspiration and new connections to make 2026 even better for our members and visitors!

Safe travels to John and everyone else wrapping up the trip. 🇮🇪🇺🇸

With today being Day, it would be remiss of us to not take the opportunity to acknowledge & celebrate the work of our greenkeeping team.

We're sure you'll join us in expressing our gratitude to the people behind the exemplary conditioning of our links, and for that we say a massive 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂!

The Island is located on the estuary of Donabate and Malahide bordered by water on 3 sides and nestled amongst some of the biggest dunes on the east coast of Ireland.
For 80years - as the name suggests; the only way you could get to the course was by rowing boat. Those taking the trip would be completely reliant that the boatman would be there to bring them back afterwards: a large red and white disc attached to a pole would be an indicator, which once raised, signalled the boatman to come back.
We parked in the club car park and as we made our way up to the pro shop, the course unveiled itself: mammoth dunes lining each side of the 1st fairway, we couldn’t wait to get out there where the theme continued of pure links played amongst dunes. The start was fantastic the opening 5 holes top draw, holes 4,5,8&9 are all new holes - redesigned in 2019/2020 by Ebert and McKenzie, the reason being, to bring the level of golf up to the standard of the clubs’ beloved back 9.
The back 9 is exceptional and the run of holes from the 12th, is not for the faint hearted.
Hole 13 is a long par 3 played with OB all up the right requires a well struck shot to make the green.
Standing on the 14th fairway you are met with one of the narrowest fairways in Europe, a reachable par 4 but if you let your ball stray right or left you’ll be in trouble.
The final 4 holes are exceptional with 15 playing into an amphitheater green, a last chance for a two putt birdie or better. The dunes are huge and similar to those at Cruden Bay.
16 is a classic par 3 that plays a club longer back up the hill.
If you can position your ball between the mammoth dunes left and bunkers right on 17 the task becomes a lot easier and 18 on the day we played from the tips was playing long very long.
@theisland is a top class venue and worthy of its status as one of the best courses to play in Ireland, we loved it and will be getting back there as soon as the chance arises.
