In this school year:

▪️ 1789 children participated in the programme nationwide
▪️ 43 schools
▪️ 58 teachers trained in shuttle time across 5 counties
▪️ 6 social blitz days

This programme is funded through Dormant accounts with Sport Ireland and provides schools with equipment, shuttle time teacher training and disability inclusion training. It concludes with a social participation blitz and creates a pathway into the local clubs.

A whopping 670 Secondary school students participate in Connacht Division 3 Competitions.

Over April and May Connacht Badminton juvenile committee together with the Connacht Activation officer co-ordinated 7 days of competitions for boys and girls from schools throughout Connacht.

It is amazing to see the growth of this competition in the last few years and such huge participation numbers. It was a jam packed schedule of Badminton and was so fantastic to see so many new schools join the competition this year.

A big well done to the Connacht Badminton volunteers and teachers for a hugely successful calendar of Division 3 events. We cannot wait to see this competition grow.

We were delighted to have former men’s singles world number 8 Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus on last night for the 5th edition of our Coach Development webinars.

Hans gave some great insights into types of training, frequency and what practices coaches should be using for various ages and stages in player development.

Fun first was the main message for our youngest kids! 🏸🇮🇪

We look forward to seeing everyone back for the 6th summer edition coming soon…

The programme started off during Women in Sport Week, led by level 1 coach Georgina Ward. Badminton Ireland were delighted to work with Wicklow LSP to get this group on court, and we look forward to seeing this group progress.

𝗕𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗧𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗪𝗙 𝗠𝗔 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱!

BadminTEEN becomes an award winning programme after being recognised by the Badminton World Federation at their recent Awards ceremony in China. The programme has been going from strength to strength since the pilot in 2022 and Badminton Ireland look forward to growing this programme even more in the years to come!

The programme is targeted at teenage girls and finding ways to keep them in the game, even if they don’t want to play! The course is split into four parts and consists of -

- Learning the basic badminton skills.
- A foundation level coaching qualification.
- Officiating games and organising a tournament.
- An online learning in health and wellbeing.

The biggest success of the programme to date is schools getting their newly qualified BWF Shuttle Time coaches to go back and coach the first years in the school which helps us to introduce even more young people to badminton.

Enda Lynch, CEO of Badminton Ireland, travelled to Chengdu to pick up the award for BadminTeen and he had this to say on the programme –
‘Badminton Ireland are thrilled to win this prestigious award. Being recognised by our peers for the innovative work we as a small national governing body are doing, is a significant boost.

Special thanks must go to Chloe Magee and the Development team. BadminTEEN is helping address a concern that goes well beyond badminton, and it is inspiring to see Chloe be so passionate about the issue of teen girls becoming disengaged from sport.

Thanks also to Dr. Una May, Nora Stapleton and the team in Sport Ireland for their backing of this project through the Her Moves funding programme.’

The application for BadminTeen for the 2024/25 school term in now open, if your school is an all-girls school and would like to apply, then please click on this link to register your details –

If you would like more information on the programme, please feel free to contact [email protected].
