This morning I was chatting to a client just before he started a tough conditioning block. He was talking about the sense of dread he gets just before doing something that he knows is going to be really hard. This feeling is a mixture of anxiety, nerves, stress and excitement and something weโve all experienced a thousand times.
Our bodies will trigger this response just before we take the plunge into any daunting situation like a giving a speech, going for an interview, running out to play a match etc. The physical reaction to whatโs happening is the exact same, what changes and what we have control over is how our mind channels it.
Your mindset and approach have a huge part to play in this. By embracing the challenge with clarity and purpose you literally have the power to turn feelings of fear and anxiety into ones of excitement and empowerment.
Feel whatโs happening in your body first with some slow breathing and then bring your attention to your mind. Focus on what youโre about to do and visualise yourself succeeding. The more you do this the easier it will become and the more you'll embrace this feeling instead of running from it. โ๐ป

Distractions are everywhere these days and we are bombarded with screens and noise 24/7. If you walk down the street now most people are looking at their phones. People are uncomfortable sitting with their own thoughts and have lost the ability to be fully present in a moment.
Sadly, this is having an effect on relationships and real human connection is suffering.
Technology is great and Iโm as guilty as anyone at getting lost down a rabbit hole of rubbish. But if we ask ourselves honestly, of the numerous times we pick up our phone throughout a day, how many are for something substantial and how many are just force of habit to check social media?
Small changes can make a big difference. Introducing a cut off time for phone use in the evening can help massively. Or when in company and you get the urge to check your phone ask yourself, โIs there anything I really need to look at to take me out of this moment or is this just habit?โ.
Youโll normally find that the answer is no!

Negative self chat = self doubt & worry. โI canโt do thatโ, โthatโs too hardโ, โIโm just not very goodโ.
Positive self chat = Self confidence & taking chances. โIโm able to do thisโ, โI can do betterโ, โI will do my bestโ.
Change the narrative, change your outlook on life.

A mistake or a f**k up is an opportunity to do two things. Wallow in regret and repeat the mistakes again or learn from them and grow.
Own your mistakes and be accountable for them, then you can learn from them and build your character.

Itโs been a LONG 4 months but weโre finally back!
Iโm delighted to announce that outdoor classes will return this week. All sessions are strength & conditioning based and can be scaled to any ability from beginner to advanced, so if youโve been sitting on your ass for the past few months then get in touch and get involved.
Class times are 18:15 Tuesday & Thursday and 9am Saturday morning.
