So today after just over 9 years in business, I close the doors of Bodyworkshop gym for the final time. To say that I have been very fourtunate in those 9 years would be an understatement. I have loved what I was doing and made a few Bob doing it. The people who I have worked with have helped me develop life skills, and an understanding of myself that I believe without meeting them I wouldn’t have achieved. I have been very lucky to meet people that i would consider to be friends for life, although I have came across some absolute headaches, they have still also thought me some lessons in life😂😂.

I would like to thank every person that has chosen me to be part of their journey in one way or another, and to the people that have added so much happiness to my life for just being apart of it that I have met through the gym, I will cherish forever.

Thank you 🙏

Congratulations to Sean, Paul and Derek who completed the Barcelona marathon this morning. Finishing strong with a 4.14 time with a few niggles pulling them back a bit but still kept it going. Well done lads 🙌🏻

Finally caught up with Senan today after his Celtic title win on the 10th of February. Although Darren is his S+C coach and I have nothing to do training him, I will still claim that we have a champion training out of the gym 🤣

Delighted for both Senan and Darren on the belt 🙌🏻 also did you even get a picture with a boxing champion if you didn’t make a fist for the photo 😂😂

Did you know that roughly 3500 calories is the equivalent to 1 pound of bodyweight. So if you want to lose 1 pound per week you must aim to be in a calorie deficit of 3500 calories. This can be very easily done by tracking your calories consumed via an app such as my fitness pal, or the calories you burn throughout your day on a Fitbit or fitness tracker.

Fuel your weight loss journey choosing lower calorie options giving you the best chance of success. A protein based meal with veggies is alway a winner.

By doing a bodyweight workout you will improve your strength, flexibility, and mobility. By implementing weights into your workout you can improve body composition, increase muscle mass and reduce your chances of developing cardiovascular disease.

For older people, adding weights into your workouts can improve bone density reducing your chances of osteoporosis, also it can help improve muscle strength and mass, reducing the development of sacripenia which is known as age-related muscle loss.

And if non of that applies to you, lifting weights will help you look good naked..

My life is very stressful sometimes, but I work well under stress!

A small bit of stress can be beneficial to help motivate us and can help us perform better in certain situations (it’s also linked with appetite suppression). But when you go past the point of ‘healthy stress’ it can be detrimental. When we stress, our body produce a stress hormone called cortisol which has been shown to contribute to weight gain. This is due to the fact that when we in a heightened state of stress, cortisol can influence the types of food that we crave.

Generally when we’re stressed we crave sugary and high fat foods due to the boost in mood from the temporary boost of serotonin that they give us. Unfortunately if you are in a continued state of stress your foods of choice are what we consider to be ‘sh*t food’ high sugar or high fat foods.

So try to reduce your daily stress by a little and hopefully that influences your cravings and your overall feeling of wellbeing.

I’d do anything for a good 8 hours sleep.. then go to bed 8 hours before your due to wake.

Sleep is one of the most important pieces to any weight loss of gym training programme. Lack of sleep can disrupt both your Grelin and leptin hormone levels which are both responsible for stimulating appetite and signalling that you are full after you eat. Lack of good quality sleep can lead to a hormone imbalance which can lead to increased appetite and cravings. And also if your tired and de-motivated chances of you having will power to stick to a plan will be very low.

So try get some sleep. Something so small can be very beneficial.
