9 February 1922 - 9 February 2022
It has arrived at last... 100 years to the date when General Michael Collins convened a meeting in Room 85 of the Gresham Hotel to set about creating a new police force for Ireland.
Today, on the 9th February 2022 and to celebrate this historic day, the Garda Síochána Retired Members Association's Oral History Project was formally launched. It is called: Capturing our History - an Oral History of An Garda Síochána 1922-2022 and can be found at https://www.gsrmacapturingourhistory.com/.
This project captures the oral living history of policing from the early years of An Garda Síochána to modern times. It adds to the lore of the history of the service and will be a resource for all to view, listen and experience what members of An Garda Síochána, their families and others experienced during this 100-year period.
The GSRMA commenced this project almost two years ago and since that time have been recording and transcribing the experiences and stories of our members, families and others who have a story to tell. There is much much more to come and we hope that you will enjoy listening and reading about these life stories as they are added to the project.

GSRMA President's Message
As President of the Garda Síochána Retired Members Association, I am delighted to wish each and every member of our Association and their families a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year for 2022.
2022 will be momentous year for us all in the GSRMA and in An Garda Síochána with our 100th Birthday to be celebrated. All members of the Association will be receiving a beautifully fashioned Lapel Pin to coincide with the Centenary.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank our Branch Committees, Central Committee and the Office Staff in Mick, Marina and Michelle for their continued commitment and dedication over the past year.
I am sure you will agree that the Editorial Board has done a tremendous job in producing a world class magazine in Síocháin. I appreciate the help and support we receive from our sponsors, advertisers and all who are associated with
the GSRMA.
As we reflect on the year that was 2021 and the tough times endured by all, we remember our GSRMA colleagues and family members who have passed away during the year. They are in our thoughts and prayers during this Christmas period.
To all Members and families, I hope that 2022 will bring you good health and happiness – Nollaig Shona agus Bliain Nua iontach daoibh go léir.
