John O'Shea has named his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Hungary (4th June, home) and Portugal (11th June, away) and it includes striker Tom Cannon who has declared his allegiance to the Boys in Green. ☘️

What an unbelievable day for Irish goalscorers. Adam Idah with the winner in the Scottish Cup Final, Troy Parrott with a hat-trick in Holland and now Jake O'Brien has just scored against PSG in the French Cup Final. It's not all gloom and doom for Irish football. 🔥 ☘️

Ademola Lookman was absolutely class this evening and he had his mam there with him to celebrate. What a wonderful occasion in Dublin and congrats to Atalanta, deserving winners of the Europa League. 🏆 ⚽

This is wonderful news for football in the city. Tolka Park has been officially saved and will remain in Shelbourne's hands for centuries to come. ♥️ ⚽

Happy 89th birthday Jack, somewhere high up there. 🙏

We want to wish Richard Keogh (26 caps, 1 goal) the best in his retirement. Richard never let his country down, always giving his all in green. 🇮🇪

Eire Guide would like to wish former Ireland midfielder Gerry Daly the very best on his big day as he turns 70 today. Gerry, who was born in Cabra, proudly represented Ireland 48 times between 1973 and 1986, scoring an impressive 13 goals along the way. His debut goal for the Boys in Green came against England at Wembley in a 1-1 friendly draw. And it was a penalty, something that Gerry would become a specialist at throughout his career. He started out with Stella Maris and Bohemians back home in Dublin before moving to Manchester United in 1973 where he would make 111 appearances over 4 years for the Old Trafford side, including an appearance in the 1976 FA Cup Final. Happy birthday Gerry and in the wise words of French referee Michel Vautrot don't overdo it! Some sartorial guidance too for the party from your Man Utd days! ☘️ ⚽

What a day for Carrigaline's Mark O'Mahony (19, CF) who starts his first Premier League game for Brighton against Bournemouth (2pm). Mark is prolific at underage for the Seagulls and has two substitute appearances for the first team to date. A very proud moment for the O'Mahony family. ☘️ 🙌

Very sad news this morning that former Ireland international Charlie Hurley has passed away. Charlie (40, 2, CB) was born in Cork and famously made his debut for Ireland against England at Dalymount Park in 1957 in a 1-1 draw (Ireland took the lead early through Alf Ringstead and were only denied a famous win by a 90th minute equaliser from John Atyeo). Charlie marked and very much contained Manchester United's star forward Tommy Taylor that day. Charlie had 12 years at Sunderland and in 1979, in the club's centenary year, he was voted the Black Cats 'player of the century'. He would enter the FAI Hall of Fame in 1989. RIP Charlie. 🙏 🇮🇪

According to a statement released by Marc Canham this afternoon there will be no permanent appointment to the role of Ireland football manager until September and the start of the Nations League. In the short term John O'Shea will be asked to continue in his role as interim manager for the June friendlies. Shambles. ☘️

19/04/2024

This is not good news at all for Ireland/Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu who has had to undergo surgery for a ruptured achilles sustained during the warmup in the Saints last game. Unfortunately it is looking like a really long layoff for Gav and we want to wish him the very best in his recovery. ☘️ 🙏

15/04/2024

We still don't have a manager and now Jonathan Hill, FAI CEO, has been relieved of his duties. We deserve better than this. ☘️

07/04/2024

Very sad news this evening with the passing of former Ireland defender Joe Kinnear at the age of 77. Joe went into management after his playing career, most memorably when he took charge of Wimbledon during the 1990's. Rest in peace Joe. 🙏 ☘️

Adam Idah scoring for Celtic at Ibrox earlier today. The 23-year-old striker from Cork has had plenty of highlights in his short time in Scotland. 🔥☘️

Update 29/04/2023: It won't be Roy Keane.

The hunt for a new Ireland manager takes a dramatic turn with one Irish newspaper reporting that the FAI top brass have now met Roy Keane three times. Given the twists and turns since Stephen Kenny bowed out in November we can probably take this revelation with a pinch of salt but this is truly the stuff of soap opera at this stage. ☘️

26/03/2024

Uninspiring stuff to say the least in a game that so clearly showed us why friendlies are a dying breed. Switzerland for their part were tidy, Ireland disappointingly not showing the urgency they displayed on Saturday. For all that we had good chances to cancel out the Swiss goal from Shaqiri but a flat performance got its just rewards and Ireland were beaten at Lansdowne Road for the first time in 2024. Ireland 0 - 1 Switzerland. ☘️

Photos from Éire Guide's post 26/03/2024

Here we go, the lads to take down the Swiss. 🤞🇮🇪

Hardly a new dawn because it will soon be sunset on John O'Shea's interim spell as Ireland manager but boy was this an encouraging showing from the Boys in Green under his stewardship. And against a team who may have been missing some key players but ranked four in the world are still a powerhouse in world football. A first half that saw Evan Ferguson miss a penalty and Chiedoize Ogbene and debut boy Sammie Szmodics have great chances. There were more in the second half involving Ferguson and Szmodics again. Belgium had plenty of possession but Ireland were creating the best opportunities. Belgium's best move came down the right side and Kelleher who had a quiet evening made a fine save. So no goals but a hatful of hope in Ireland's first game of 2024. ☘️

Now there's a statement of intent if ever there was one in an Ireland starting line-up. Sammie Szmodics starting! No Mikey Johnston but then it is Belgium and going all out cavalier doesn't make sense. A new era and fingers crossed it begins with a memorable performance. 🇮🇪
