Recent Races

Fethard AC members have been busy over the past few weeks, with a great turnout across a variety of races and challenges. It has been fantastic to see so many athletes getting out and representing the club, with some excellent performances and personal bests along the way.

At the Greenway Half Marathon on 29th August, James Maher put in a superb performance, crossing the finish line in 1:22:34 to set a new personal best. Cathal Hurley also had a strong run, finishing in 1:39:19, while Pat Morrissey continued his excellent recent form with a time of 1:39:32. This was another personal best for Pat, making it his second PB in the space of one week — a fantastic achievement and a great reflection of his current form.

The following day, on 30th August, Fethard AC was represented at the Moreabbey 10/10. Jack Spillane took on the 10-mile event and recorded an excellent time of 1:09:59, while Michael Allen completed the 10K in 42:05. Michael was back in action again the following Sunday at the Run the Bridges 10K, where he ran an excellent 41:46 to set a new personal best. This was a fantastic performance and showed great commitment, with Michael taking part in two races in such a short period.

On 22nd August, a number of club members took on the challenging Knockmealdown Challenge. Well done to Isobel Minogue, Siobhan Maher, Deirdre Royce, Nicola Noonan, Katie Ryan and Michael Lyons on completing the challenge. A special mention goes to Deirdre Royce, who had a fantastic performance, finishing 3rd in the O50 category.

Well done to all our members who have been getting out and taking part in races and challenges over the past few weeks. It is great to see such strong participation from Fethard AC across a wide range of events🔵⚫️

🚨 Thurles Crokes Cross Country Open! 🚨

​We’re excited to host our Cross Country Open! This is the perfect practice run to test out the primary and post-primary school courses, and a great chance to stretch the legs before the Cross Country Championship season gets underway. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Boston Scientific Half Marathon 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

It was a fantastic day for Fethard AC at the Boston Scientific Half Marathon, with a brilliant turnout and some excellent performances across the field.

Leading the club home was Kevin Tobin, who put in a strong performance to finish in an impressive 1:30:27. Edel Roche was next across the line in 1:32:14, an excellent run which also saw her take the O40 category win.

Michael Allen continued the strong showing for the club, crossing the line in 1:36:18, followed closely by MJ Croke in 1:43:03 and Pat Morrissey in 1:43:33. Tanya O’Brien also had a fantastic run, finishing in 1:44:57.

There was a great display of determination further down the field, with Annemarie Croke completing the half marathon in 1:49:22, just ahead of John Hurley, who finished in 1:49:26.

Theresa Coffey put in a strong effort to finish in 2:05:06, while Lisa Williams crossed the line in 2:16:37. Mary Hurley rounded out the Fethard AC performances, finishing in 2:17:16⚫️🔵

Streets of Thurles – Sunday 16th August

The popular Streets of Thurles race returned for 2026 on Sunday, 16th August, with Fethard AC once again well represented. It was a very successful outing for the club, with some excellent performances, plenty of personal bests and a juvenile category win.

Laura Early put in a fantastic performance, breaking the 18-minute barrier with an impressive time of 17:44. Dylan Noonan also had a brilliant run, crossing the line in 18:11 to take the win in the juvenile category.

There were plenty of other strong performances throughout the field, with Paula Hendriksen finishing in 20:10, followed by Pat Morrissey in 20:29 and Tanya O’Brien in 21:05. Aine Roche recorded 21:23, while Alexis Hendriksen finished in 23:31. Aine Doocey completed the race in 24:39, with William Pody running 25:07 in the juvenile category. Tara Power crossed the line in 27:15, while Katie Fleming finished in 29:14 breaking the 30 min mark.

Congratulations to everyone who took part, with the strong number of PBs making it an especially successful day for the club. Well done to all! ⚫️🔵

Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile – Friday 31st July

Fethard AC had five women travel to Kinsale on Friday, 31st July, to take part in the Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile. There were some excellent performances across the field, with Siobhan Maher and Deirdre Royce finishing together in 42:26, closely followed by Isobel Minogue in 42:27.

Mary Hurley also put in a strong performance, crossing the line in 47:28, while Teresa Hurley completed the course in 48:31. Ann Tillyer also made the trip to Kinsale to support the girls, adding to the great club spirit throughout the evening.

National Masters Championships

Congratulations to John Laste and Noel Howley, who proudly represented Fethard Athletic Club at the National Masters Championships.

John produced a fantastic performance in the 5000m Race Walk, taking home gold and becoming a National Masters champion in his event. 🥇 A brilliant achievement and a great reward for all his hard work and training.

Noel also enjoyed an outstanding championships, claiming silver in both the 1500m and 5000m, before adding a bronze medal in the 800m. 🥈🥈🥉 His consistency across three events was hugely impressive and highlights his versatility on the track.

A fantastic weekend of racing for both athletes, bringing home an impressive haul of four National Masters medals for Fethard AC.

Clogheen 5K – Thursday 30th July 2026

Fethard Athletic Club was well represented at the Clogheen 5K on Thursday evening, with three club athletes putting in excellent performances.

Kevin Tobin had a super run, crossing the finish line in an impressive 18:52 to finish 15th overall. Kevin put in a strong performance over the 5K distance and continues to show great consistency in his racing.

Paula Hendriksen was next across the line for Fethard AC, recording a fantastic time of 21:01. Paula’s strong run saw her take 1st place in the O45 age category, adding another excellent age-category victory to her growing list of performances.

Alexis Hendriksen also produced a very good performance, completing the course in 24:23. Alexis finished 4th in the 20–24 age category, putting in a solid run and gaining valuable race experience.

Last Sunday, Fethard AC had the honour of hosting the County 10 Mile Championships, and it proved to be a hugely successful event both on and off the course. A fantastic turnout of athletes, brilliant performances and a great club atmosphere made it a memorable day for everyone involved.

The women’s race saw a fantastic display from the Fethard AC athletes. On home ground, Laura Earley produced a superb performance to take victory in the Women’s Senior race, crossing the line in an impressive 65:55 and leading the way in a fantastic display from our women’s team. Edel Roche continued her excellent form, claiming 1st O45 in 69:34, while Tanya O’Brien added another age-category victory to her season, finishing 1st O35 in 75:38. The strong performances from Laura, Edel and Tanya secured 1st place in the Women’s A Team competition.

Paula Hendriksen was next across the line for Fethard in 76:20, followed closely by Aine Roche, who claimed 2nd O40 in 76:49. Together with Deirdre Royce, who delivered another excellent performance finishing 1st O55 in 84:57, they secured 3rd place in the Women’s A Team competition.

The depth of the women’s squad was on full display, with Aoife Horan finishing in 86:02, Aine Doocey taking 2nd O50 in 87:08, and Siobhan Maher securing 3rd O55 in 91:00. Their combined efforts earned them 1st place in the Women’s B Team competition.

A great team performance also came from Lisa Williams and Theresa Coffey, who both finished in 97:20, followed by Kitty Conry in 102:41, with the trio securing 2nd place in the Women’s B Team competition. Tara Power rounded off the women’s results with a strong run of 102:52, finishing 3rd O35.

The men’s race also produced some excellent performances for Fethard AC. Leading the way was James Maher, who ran strongly to finish 3rd O45 in 63:21. Brothers Eoghan Ryan and Pádraic Ryan had a fantastic battle, with a sprint finish seeing Eoghan just edge ahead in 65:07, followed closely by Pádraic in 65:08. Alongside Kevin Tobin, who recorded 66:24, the team secured 3rd place in the Men’s A Team competition.

Jack Spillane continued the strong showing with a great run of 68:34, while Neilie Hall claimed 2nd O60 in 72:18. Together with Pat Morrissey, who finished in 75:07, they secured 2nd place in the Men’s B Team competition.

The remaining men also represented the club with great pride. John Hurley completed the course in 78:22, while John Laste added another age-category podium finish with 2nd O60 in 80:56. PJ O’Halloran finished strongly in 81:21, with John, John and PJ combining to take 3rd place in the Men’s B Team competition.

Overall, it was another fantastic day for Fethard AC, with athletes producing excellent individual performances, claiming numerous age-category awards and securing multiple team podium finishes. The success of the County 10 Mile was a reflection of the strength, commitment and consistency of the club throughout the road racing season. Thanks to the continued efforts and performances of our athletes across the year, Fethard AC were delighted to retain the Michael Cahill Cup.

On Wednesday the 1st July Dundrum AC hosted the 41st running of their Coillte 10km road race for adults and 5k for juveniles. Again this was an excellently hosted event by Dundrum AC. A huge well done would have to be given on the organising of such a race, where 413 adults completed the 10k route and 25 juveniles completed the 5k route. Fethard AC was well represented with 8 seniors and 1 juvenile taking part. 1st home for the club was Paraic Ryan with an excellent time of 37.32. After the race Paraic was well delighted with his result knocking some minutes off his effort last year, congrats to Paraic and Amy on the birth of their daughter Eabha, both came out to support Paraic. James Maher followed with an excellent time of 39.18. Kevin Tobin after his wahoo in Royal Ascot was across the line in 40.27. First lady home was Paula Hendriksen in a time of 44.55 closely follow by Tanya O Brien in a time of 44.59. Both ladies running under the 45 minute marker and very happy with their perfomances. Newcomer Alexis Hendriksen ran an excellent time of 53.41 showing her determination in the Fethard singlet and her first 10k race. Noel Howley ran a great time of 54.51 well done Noel. Following Noel was Bernie O Rahilly again another first timer who was delighted with her time of 59.42 well done to Bernie. In the Juvenile section Dylan Noonan ran an excellent race finishing 3rd place with an excellent time of 18.59, running so fast at the finish nearly missing the line, Dylans form is showing across all juvenile sections, on the road and track. This is due to his hard work with the help of his coaches well done Dylan. Fethard AC would like to thank Dundrum AC for a great event and their hospitality as alwaysl after the race 🔵⚫️
