Connacht U9-U11 Team Games and U12-U13 Championships
Saturday 6 June – Claremorris Athletics Track, F12 KX63.
An action-packed day ahead of running, jumps and throws at day 1 of this year’s Connacht Outdoors with over 800 children from 37 different clubs on the entry list. Good luck to all participants.

First track event to be called at 9.45am. First field events to be called at 10am.
The high jump will take place in the indoor building.
Parking is available at the athletics track. Please follow the directions of the parking attendants. Once the track car park is full, overflow parking is available at:

Allow extra time for parking and walking to the track if using the overflow car parks.
Do not park at the Mushroom facilities.
Do not block any gates, entrances, exits, roadways, or access points.
Please park considerately and respect local residents and neighbouring facilities.
Tents are to be pitched in designated area only adjacent to the track and indoor arena – entry / exits must be left clear for First Aid at all times.
Other event information:
· Numbers must be collected by one Club designate once that Clubs Officials have signed in.
· All Officials must check in by no later than 9.30am.
· All athletes must have their numbers pinned securely on the front of their tops using 4 pins - Bring your own pins.
· Competing athletes only and Officials will have access to the track.
· Announcements will be made as to when/where each event is to assemble.
· Athletes competing in field events may only gain access to the competition area once their event has been called.
· Parent to collect child from the exit gate of track after their event is finished.
· There are 2 separate toilet blocks available on site – one adjacent to the indoor arena and new set adjacent to the Gym.
· There is to be no football/soccer played in the grounds of the track/ carparks.
· Treanlaur Catering will be at Claremorris Track on Saturday for Teas/Coffees and sandwiches and sweet treats.
· No more than 5mm spikes to be worn on the track.
· As always, we ask for respect for all athletes, officials, volunteers and the venue itself.
Competition information:
There are no finals in the running events, so entrants run just once in their assigned heat at that distance. Medallists are determined by the fastest 3 times overall across the heats in each competition.
If a child has a track event on at the same time as a field event, the track event takes priority. The child can resume the field event once the track race is over.
U9 – U11 only:
-It is a paired (team) competition for these ages.
-Each pair’s combined distance or combined time is their team score. Medals will be awarded and qualification achieved to the National Championships for the top 3 pairs in each event.
-Medals to be awarded also to the top 3 individuals in each event, but there is no individual qualification towards the Nationals.
-The U9-U11 Nationals are in Tullamore on 21 June.
-Standing or crouch start to be used in the 60m. Standing start in the longer distance events.
U12 & U13 only:
-The top four in each event qualify for the Nationals, except in the 600m where 3 qualify.
-U12 60m Hurdles and also the U12-U13 Walks are developmental events meaning that there is no National finals for either.
-The U12 Nationals are in Tullamore on 21 June, while the U13 Nationals are in Tullamore on other dates in June / July depending on the event.
-Starting blocks may be used for the 60m / 60m Hurdles but, if not, a crouch start must be used instead.

What a night for the west coast senior men 🖤🤍🖤
Five of our lads toed the line earning a brilliant 1st overall senior club performance 🥇
- Abaas – Ran a superb race , 2nd place overall. Great to see Abaas as Group leader , leading from the front , clear sign he’s on the way back to his best !
- .ash114 Hafez – Brilliant race also and an amazing 4th overall.
- Tom, Chris & Ian – Rounded out the team. As we know there’s No team result without all team members , so thankyou guys !! 👏
Huge congrats to as chief organiser – this 8k was another brilliant race and it seems to only be getting better . The addition of team prizes went down a treat.!!
Last but no means least a shout out to & who did Trojan work on the finish line.

CAOIMHE PHELAN WALKS AWAY AS SENIOR SCHOOL CHAMPION !! 🥇🎉🤩
Congratulations to the mighty Caoimhe Phelan who this evening claimed her senior crown as 2026 Race walking champion over 3k and with a new PB of 14.40 💥
Caoimhe has gone from strength to strength , working hard on a weekly basis and today her hard work paid off !!!! 🥇🎉
West Coast also wishes to acknowledge the brilliant Siobhan Kellegher SouthGalway AthleticsClub for all her guidance and support of Caoimhe , to be able to collaborate is great as we couldn’t do this without your expertise , so THANKYOU Siobhan , take a bow ! 🖤

Athletics roundup: Galway contingent to take part in national Schools Track and Field competition This weekend features one of the highlights of the athletics calendar, as the Irish Schools Track and Field Championships takes place on Friday, May 29 and Saturday, May 30 in Tullamore.
