West Utd captured the Over 35 Title by the skin of their teeth after a pulsating battle with Oughterard in Castle Park yesterday.

Oughterard had the 1st chance after two minutes when the dangerous Martin Coady was desperately unlucky to see a great effort come crashing off the woodwork.

Just a minute later a brilliant West Utd counter attack saw Mixer Devaney brilliantly tee up Richie Quinn on the edge of the box to fire home a brilliant opener.

Oughterard were stunned having been a whisker away from taken the lead a minute earlier,West smelt blood and took control Sean Murphy hit the crossbar with a wonder strike from 40 yards and Oughterard Goalie Jody Daly was in inspired form between the posts.

Huge credit to Oughterard who weathered the West storm and Martin Coady showed the unbelievable quality he has with a great solo goal to leave it 1-1 at the break.

The 2nd half was even enough and Blain Sheridan kept West level with a sublime save and at the other end Jody Daly was like a human wall with some inspired saves.

The last 15 minutes was all West as Oughterard clung on and Daly continued his one man crusade to stop West winning the game in 90 minutes.

With Oughterard looking gassed,It looked like extra time would see West continue to push it was the opposite,Whatever Gary Beatty put in the full time water worked a charm.

Oughterard were rejuvenated and West were out on their feet,Oughterard were desperately unlucky not to take the lead twice but in Simon Murray West have a player who has been the difference all his career and so he proved again with an unbelievable headed goal from a Sean Murphy delivery and it had to be good to beat Jody Daly.

It was literally the last touch of the 1st period of extra time,Oughterard had 10 minutes to save themselves and to their credit they threw everything at West but in Enda Farragher West have a man who would head concrete blocks and the ball was like a magnet to his head,Darren Corcoran beside him was following Farragher's lead by blocking and clearing everything.

Oughterard had one last Chance with a corner in injury time and their was huge relief when Blain Sheridan came and claimed a brilliant catch in a crowded area.

Special mention to Sean Gavin who was a midfield powerhouse all day despite not being long off a flight from Dubai and Keeper Blain Sheridan only landed back in the Country a few hours before the game.

It was a great squad effort all season with Simon Murray and Sean Keogh providing most of the firepower and the squad was brilliantly led by Captain Mixer Devaney,Keelan Lynch was another ever present all season and was rock solid at Full Back.

Huge credit to manager Daniel Browne who had a lot to deal with all summer with lots of unavailability until the Semi Final and Final stage but as he said himself it doesn't get serious until the knockout stages.

So when the shadow boxing was over he brought in the heavy hitter as his Assistant Big Al Cubbard who in his own words wins trophies and so they did and the dream team delivered again.

A word for Oughterard who were outstanding throughout and could easily of ended up in the winners enclosure,A huge thank you to Pa Spellman and East Utd for the use of Castlepark,Pa has the pitch in top shape as always.

To Martin Hughes and The GFA thanks for running another brilliant summer of football for all the older players to continue playing and being active.

A Final Thank you to the match officials Padraig Kevin and Mick,It was a very tough battle but it was played in the spirit this tournament was intended.

Congrats to our over 43s for Clinching The Europa League Final of The Over 43s.

West went 1-0 down early but a powerful comeback saw them go 4-1ahead with 30 minutes to go,Credit Moyne Villa who stuck at and got a deserved late 2nd goal.

Thanks to the match officials John O Connor Gabriel Darcy and Niall Crosby who had a very easy night officiating a game that was played in great spirit throughout.

A big thank you to Martin Hughes and The GFA for giving lads a chance to play competitive football when you would be long since retired in other Counties.

Captain Dean Walsh recieved the cup on behalf of West Utd,Thanks to Reuben Danny and Big Al for looking after the lads all year.

Now its time for this lot to retire for another 10 months,Well done lads 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬⚽️⚽️⚽️

Hard luck to our over 35s Ladies who were agonisingly beaten on penos last night in the Ladies Over 35s Final.

The Club is very proud of the players and management and congratulate them on a fantastic campaign.

Top scorer Nicola Deacy had West in front early with a fantastic finish,Cregmore brought the game to extra time with a very good goal of their own.

Cregmore had an opportunity to win it in Extra Time but West Utd keeper Bairbre Curran took off a fantastic save to send the game to the dreaded penalty shootout.

This was a magnificent feat for the ladies especially given Cregmore would of been hot favourites,They played with a never say die attitude throughout.

In the shootout Cregmore prevailed 5-4 on penos in what was a brilliant advert for Ladies Over 35s Soccer.

A Huge Thank you to Colemanstown for the use of their brilliant facilities,Also a huge thanks to the GFA for running a great competition all summer 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬⚽️⚽️⚽️

All roads lead to Colemanstown tomorrow evening as West take on Cregmore in the Final of the Ladies Over 35s.

Our Ladies have done brilliantly all summer and hopefully they can get their hand on the trophy 🏆

West produced a fantastic performance to qualify for the Galway Over 35s Football A Final by dispatching Red Hot favourites Salthill Devon in Drom.

In an even 1st half West held sway with Simon Murray coming closest for West and Dean Walsh denied Salthill early on with a great save.

The 1st half was a war of attrition,Rico Casey must of thought he was on a tackle bonus as he flew into tackles from the off,West showed flashes through Sean Keogh Simon Murray and Richard Quinn but in general defences held sway.

0-0 at the break but whatever was said by the dynamic duo at Half Time (Bruiser and Big Al) West came out of the gates flying and when Mixer Devaney took on all comers and slalomed through the Salthill Defence,He was crudely taken down.

Up stepped former Salthill Devon man with the wand of a left foot Sean Murphy to fire West in front.

With over 30 minutes to see out West really rolled up their sleeves as Salthill threw the proverbial kitchen sink at West,The back 4 of Murphy Farragher Clancy and Lynch must have concussion this morning with all the headed clearances.

Salthill grew more and more desperate for an equaliser and when they finally breached the West wall they found Dean Walsh was not for passing with two incredible saves.

West would need the all important 2nd goal it seemed and with Moloney and the fresh legs of Corcoran Sherry Sweeney and Dolan providing almost a 2nd back 5 for West.

The goal came when Dolan released Sweeney in the 89th minute and he raced through from halfway to score a brilliant clinching goal much to the delight of the West Utd bench.

With injury time to navigate a very good Salthill side kept pushing but West Utd were like a dog possessed as they saw out a brilliant victory to set up a final with Oughterard.

Daniel Browne and Alan Cubbard will be looking to add to the trophy they annexed against Corrib Rangers two years ago having not competed in last years competition,With the dream team back in the dugout hopefully they can deliver 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬⚽️⚽️⚽️
