Get back your strength & fitness after time away or a setback. Simple - repeatable - doable

Feeling frustrated is a normal reaction when your fitness goals aren't going the way you want them to, especially when things are happening in life that you can't control.

A calm look at what's been going on in your training, your food, your sleep and how the last few weeks have gone is where you decide what needs to change and what you leave alone.

You learn this by stopping and becoming aware of what has happened and the reasons why things might not be moving in the direction you want.

Nothing is guaranteed, but you can still make decisions based on what's in front of you. The longer you do it, the better you get at making them.

When you're working towards a training, fitness or nutrition goal, things inevitably won't go the way you planned. Life gets busy, work or family takes over, your energy is low or your training just feels flat. Some weeks are frustrating and that's normal.

The temptation in those weeks is to stop completely and wait until things settle down so you can start again properly. But if you stop completely, you won't get any further. You end up further away from where you want to be.

So look at what you can do and will do right now that starts pulling things back in line. That might be shorter sessions, a few walks or keeping your nutrition simple for the week. Work to the level that suits you for what's going on now.

You probably don't need to make massive changes. Get back to doing the basics well, whatever your goal is and build from there.

New episode of the podcast is up on Spotify. Message me or comment podcast and I'll send it over.

Getting back into the gym after time away doesn't need a big plan. Two full body strength sessions a week is a good place to start.

Keep the movements simple, focus on technique first and add weight slowly. Cardio can sits alongside it and again is kept simple.

The fitter or stronger you get the more possibility open up.

It backs self belief to do things you once didn't think you do. Training helps you physically with stronger joints, bones, and muscles. Fitter heart and lungs.

But also mindset, the way you see or take on challenges. And the sense of achieving something is a good buzz too.

Just have a go!

This comes from something I've learned the hard way through my own experience with arthritis. And trying to figure out how to get back into training properly.

One good session at the start doesn't mean it's time to push harder the next day. Progress isn't built off a single session in isolation. It's the compound of a few weeks, repeated, so you actually know where you're at. Ramping up too soon off one good day is usually what causes the setback in the first place.

New podcast episode up, where I talk about the common thoughts people put in front of themselves before starting back into the gym. You can find it on Spotify, or send me a message and I'll send it over.

Every client's week will look different and that's why everything needs to be taken into consideration, not just what is written on paper for the training session. That is why I ask something along the lines of how are you feeling? Or how has the week been?

Not to always changes things but to match your effort to the energy you have.

I'm giving away one space on my 8 Week Rebuild programme. Entries close 2nd October at 6pm. Link in my bio and share the giveaway post to your story too.
