🏊🚴🏃 PULSE PORT BEACH TRIATHLON — 2026 🌊

A fantastic performance from Mark McGinley at the Pulse Port Beach Triathlon, rounding off a brilliant season with a hard-earned podium finish.

Mark lined up for the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run and produced an excellent performance to cross the line in 2nd overall, with a time of 1:01:05. 🥈

He was just 19 seconds off the overall win, making for a seriously close finish at the front of the field.

The result is particularly impressive when compared with Mark’s previous Pulse Port appearance. Having won the race in 2024 in 1:06:51, Mark returned two years later and took almost six minutes off his previous time, underlining the progress he has made.

It caps off a superb 2026 season for Mark, which has seen him consistently competing at the sharp end of the field, including a 4th-place finish at the Irish National Middle Distance Championships and victory at the Sheephaven Half.

A brilliant season and another podium to add to the collection. 👏

🌍 WORLD TRIATHLON AGE-GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS — PONTEVEDRA 2026 🇪🇸

A fantastic achievement for our athletes who represented Ireland on the world stage at the 2026 World Triathlon Age-Group Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.

Three of our athletes took on some of the best age-group triathletes from around the world, competing across the Sprint, Standard Distance and Aquabike events.

🏊🚴 Shane Mc Nulty — M50–54

Shane had a busy championship, competing in both the Sprint Triathlon and Aquabike World Championships.

In the Sprint, Shane produced a strong performance to finish 25th overall in the M50–54 category in 1:12:16.

🏃 Run — 19:46

Shane then backed that up with an excellent performance in the Aquabike World Championships, finishing an impressive 14th overall in his age group.

Reflecting on the experience, Shane described the atmosphere as electric and said the overall experience was amazing — a fitting description of what was a truly memorable World Championship experience.

🏊🚴🏃 Hugh Gallagher — M50–54

Hugh also took on two events, racing both the Sprint and Standard Distance World Championships.

In the Sprint, Hugh finished 54th overall in the M50–54 category with a time of 1:17:43.

Hugh then took on the challenge of the Standard Distance, adding another World Championship race to an impressive weekend.

🏊🚴🏃 Donagh O’Sullivan — M55–59

Donagh represented Ireland in the Sprint World Championships in the M55–59 category, finishing 77th overall in a time of 1:27:34.

To qualify, travel to Spain and compete on the world stage is a fantastic achievement in itself, and all three athletes can be hugely proud of their performances.

Congratulations to Shane, Hugh and Donagh on representing Ireland and our club at the World Triathlon Age-Group Championships.

The results are something to be proud of, but so too is the experience of standing on a start line alongside athletes from across the world.

What a weekend for Letterkenny 247 Triathlon Club, with incredible performances across some major endurance events! 💪

IRONMAN WALES

Mark McGinley took on his first ever full-distance IRONMAN at one of the toughest races on the planet.

Facing a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42.2km marathon, simply taking on Wales is a huge achievement — but Mark didn’t just finish, he smashed it!

🏆 35th overall
🔥 First full-distance IRONMAN

An outstanding performance on an incredibly demanding course and a result Mark and the whole club can be hugely proud of!

IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Margaret Kelly travelled to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships and enjoyed a fantastic start to race week, completing the practice swim before Thursday’s 5km fun run along the promenade.

Race day brought a non-wetsuit swim, with Margaret producing an excellent 38:23 — around a minute faster than her practice swim.

The bike course proved extremely challenging, with large numbers of athletes making the opening section chaotic. Margaret tackled two climbs, including gradients of around 12%, before disaster struck ahead of Col de Vence.

A rider in front lost control and came off, sending her bike into Margaret and unfortunately sending her over the handlebars.

Margaret suffered injuries to her back and ribs and was taken to hospital.

Thankfully, the most important thing is that Margaret is receiving care. Everyone at Letterkenny 247 wishes her a speedy and full recovery. ❤️

GREAT FJORD SWIM – CONNEMARA

Chloe Wasson took on another incredible challenge at the Great Fjord Swim. Originally scheduled for 8km, challenging conditions saw the distance reduced to approximately 6.3km.

Despite the very choppy conditions, the swim was completed in an impressive:

🇧🇪💙 247 TAKE ON IRONMAN 70.3 KNOKKE-HEIST! 💙🇮🇪

It was a fantastic weekend of racing for Letterkenny 247 Triathlon Club, with two of our athletes taking on the huge challenge of IRONMAN 70.3 Knokke-Heist in Belgium.

With a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run standing between them and the finish line, both Catherine Boyle and Noelle Lynch showed huge determination to complete the 70.3 distance in 27 degree heat and proudly represent letterkenny 247 on the international stage. 🇮🇪🇧🇪

Another fantastic weekend of racing for the members of Letterkenny 247 Triathlon Club, with athletes taking on challenges across the country — and plenty of impressive results to celebrate! 👊

🌊 Sheephaven Bay Swim – 2.5km

A number of our members took on the 2.5km swim at Sheephaven Bay, putting in some excellent performances:

We also had two athletes in action at Top of the Mourne.

🔥 Mark McGinley put in a blistering performance to finish 2nd Overall in an incredible 2:17:41.

This was Mark’s penultimate race before he heads across the water to take on the IRONMAN Cymru and the famous valleys of Wales. 🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Best of luck with the final preparations, Mark — one more big race to go! 💪

👏 Shaun Sweeney was also in action, taking on the Olympic distance and crossing the line in 3:21:19.

Another solid and consistent performance from Shaun, with all that hard work clearly starting to pay off. Keep it going! 👊

Letterkenny 247 Triathlon Club Take on IRONMAN Kalmar 🇸🇪

It was a huge weekend for Letterkenny 247 Triathlon Club as three of our members took on the ultimate endurance challenge at IRONMAN Kalmar in Sweden.

With a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and a full 42.2km marathon to finish, simply reaching the start line is a huge achievement and all three athletes can be incredibly proud of their performances.

Garrett Doherty led the way, putting together a fantastic performance to break the 11-hour barrier, crossing the finish line in 10:58:09.

Mark Gallagher was next home, completing his first-class performance in an impressive 11:04:01 another superb sub-11-hour effort.

Paddy Doherty rounded out the Letterkenny 247 contingent, battling through the full Ironman distance to finish in 11:42:33.

Three athletes, three Ironman finishes and more than 33 hours of racing between them. An incredible achievement and a fantastic representation of the club on the international stage.

A massive congratulations to Garrett, Mark and Paddy on what was a brilliant day of racing in Kalmar. The commitment, training and determination required to complete an Ironman cannot be underestimated.

Inch Mile Swim

Closer to home, two of our athletes took on the Inch Mile Swim in Rathmullan, with both putting in excellent performances in the open water.

Chloe Wasson produced a fantastic swim, completing the mile in 41:27

Catherine Boyle also put in a strong performance, finishing in 42:59.

Keith Patton took on the 1/2 mile swim and completed it in a time of 25:11

🌊🏃 Aquathon Round-Up – Gartan 🏃🌊

Our latest Aquathon took us to the stunning surroundings of Gartan, where athletes took on a 400m open water swim followed by a one-mile run around a beautiful scenic course. It was another fantastic evening of racing, with great performances and plenty of encouragement all around.

After the racing, members and their families enjoyed our annual club barbecue, kindly provided by The Kitchen. 🍔🌭 We also held a raffle with some fantastic prizes, generously sponsored by Adam Speer of Speer Performance, NCA Hairdressing, Misters Barbers, Paddy Doherty, and the club.

A huge thank you to our main club sponsor, Wassons Garage, for their continued support throughout the season. Your backing plays a huge part in making evenings like this possible, and we really appreciate everything you do for the club.

📸 A special thank you to Capture Donegalfor the incredible photos and drone footage. The images perfectly captured the atmosphere of the evening and have given us some fantastic memories to look back on.

Another fantastic weekend of racing for Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon Club! 🏊🚴🏃

Club members were in action across two events over the weekend, producing some outstanding performances and podium finishes.

🏅 Loughrea Aquabike

A huge congratulations to Shane McNulty, who delivered an excellent performance in the Loughrea Aquabike, taking on a challenging 1.5km swim (2 loops) followed by a 40km bike (4 loops).

Shane crossed the line 2nd Overall and claimed 1st place in his Age Category—a brilliant result against a strong field. Well done, Shane!

🏊🚴🏃 Omagh Sprint & Try a Tri

Several club members also travelled to Omagh to compete in both the Sprint Triathlon and the Try a Tri, putting in great performances across the board.
