One thing I’m always looking for my athletes to do is to bring intensity and effort to their sessions.
Either the event is big enough that just finishing is going to be the challenge or it’s smaller and you’re looking to finish as fast as possible. Either way there’s going to be a time where you’re working hard and feeling the pain, if you’re not used to that it’s going to come as a shock to the system and undermine your race day
I had a progressive run with an uphill fast finish and you can see the toll it took on the Heart Rate! You can see it building over the course of the session to that last final effort. It’s important to me that coaches have put themselves in those positions, have felt what the athletes are feeling and know the effort it takes
Slow and steady is useful at times but it will only get you so far, beyond that you’ve got to be willing to push and embrace the suffering 🫡
