π Overriding your negative thoughts with positive thinking can backfire big time.
Here is why and what to do instead π
Why it backfires? π§¨βοΈπ«£
Overriding negative thoughts with positive ones is like telling oneself: βYou are wrong!β β π
When someone says that to us we feel rejected. Why would you want to do that to yourself? π«£π³
What to do instead? π
β
Acknowledge your negative thoughts and accept them as your initial response
β
Explore the polar opposite of those thoughts
β
Look for evidence of how this opposite could be true, too
Now, you are more balanced in your actual response without the danger of a backfire. ποΈ
This works as much for positive thoughts that may make us believe we can fly when in fact we canβt. βοΈπ¦ππ₯
Give it try and share in the comments what you think π
