U16 Girls Rosebowl Semi Final
Mulroy Academy 2 Lagan Harps 2. (Mulroy won on pens)
Mulroy came throught after a penalty shootout in a really hard fought game. We were the better side in the first half and played some great football. We had some great interlinking play down the right between Sinead Mc Loughlin, Teaghan Doherty and Catherine Caldwell. We took the lead on four minutes after a great ball by Catherine found Teaghan and she curled the ball in to the far corner. Cara Mc Fadden went close with a couple of shots as we dominated possession. We defended solidly and Ciara Cullen dealt well with anything came her way. Mulroy were restricted to a few dangerous corners. The Mulroy defence did well at this stage to keep us at bay. The second half was a different story. With the wind in their favour Mulroy began to get on top. We defended pretty well but the introduction of Eimear Doherty at halftime really strengthened the Mulroy attack. We extended our lead on forty nine minutes with a great long range free from Jodie Rodgers. Mulroy upped the pressure and they made the breakthrough on fifty eight minutes when Una Sweeney headed in a corner at the near post. They continued to press and equalised on sixty three minutes. Erin Logue was first to react to a long cross to the back post, and knocked it home. We were under pressure at this stage but between some hard defending and some good catches from Ciara Cullen we held on to the end. Mulroy then came out on top in the shootout. We now face Keadue Rovers in the Plate Final on Sunday week.
